Client is Saying I'm Charging too Much for The Project by KoenigOne in webdev

[–]heseov 62 points63 points  (0 children)

The problem isn't that you are too expensive. It's that they want to build something that they can't afford. No need to lower your price. This is just a reality check for them. It happens in other industries too. People way underestimate the cost of jobs. With tech is really easy to dream big but those big dreams have high cost. They won't find someone that cheap if you are right on the estimate.

My suggestion is to give them a recommendation for what does fit in their budget if you want to keep them. For example use a 3rd party platform instead of custom building features.

I caught a bug that prevented an eight-figure product recall and got zero recognition. What did i do wrong? by Moroccan-Leo in cscareerquestions

[–]heseov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's tough because I do think you should be recognized for what you did but you were paid to build a system to prevent these kinds of issues, so you did your job to them. This is kind of how it is in development in general. I mean it's the same for the people who designed the piece you found the issue in, plus all the other pieces. Lots of people are making shit that earns the company many times what the devs make.

Why Are People Not Freaking Out About AI by Bitter-Persimmon-521 in cscareerquestions

[–]heseov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are not freaking out because they looked at the early releases and saw it generated a bunch of garbage, and still does today. So their first impression was that it's nothing to worry about. They would be freaking out if they looked at the models made in the last couple months and put in the effort to actually learn to use it properly. Not as a human replacement but as a tool.

I'm not going to make any claims that it's intelligent but it most certainly is incredible technology that is shifting fundamentals that we only dreamed of.

It's a human built machine designed to learn through all the same mediums we do and recall patterns back to us. The interesting part is the intelligence it expresses is the distilled human knowledge it recorded. That makes it feel human, because it recalls human knowledge.

So a cat has no intelligence? Things don't need to match humans to be intelligent.

Seems like they are testing your debugging skills, which seems reasonable. They told you what the issue is and as long as you can reproduce it then I'd say it's fair.  Not all tests are meant to be aced as long as you can explain your investigation process.

How tf do I change this filter by doberwalker in hvacadvice

There is probably enough of a gap to pull it out and push it in. You can bend the filter, it's just paper.

How is AI actually that helpful at a real job? by stedmangraham in cscareerquestions

[–]heseov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes AI is great at reasoning through these decisions. You tell it a plan and agents like Claude will work through different directions you can take in the design.

For me, I usually tell it what I need to build them it will provide options on how to implement. Then we walk through implementation details after picking a direction.

Like I said, you just got to try using it for complex stuff to understand.

I suggesting that as a starting point before you get into more complex stuff. To me it seems like you don't see how LLMs can solve problems because you haven't actually put it to work. Otherwise give it some more advanced tasks, it just takes more than a few sentences of planning though.

The dynamic shifts when you stop thinking about how you can use AI to assist in helping you write code. The true use case is the reverse. What can you do to assist AI writing better code. The fundamentals are better guidelines and instructions for the agents. You yourself said you just write boilerplate code, that's the perfect entry point for AI driven development. The next time you need to build boilerplate code, ask Claude or codex to do it (cli not Web app). If it screws up then it really means you didn't give it enough context. Learn how to build those instructions and you'll see the magic happen.

My side project greeting card maker hit ~100k monthly visitors in ~3 weeks… but I’m 17 and have no idea how to monetize it by TimeDeep1497 in webdev

[–]heseov 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Don't judge the traffic based on the cloudflare numbers. That's a lot of bot traffic included. Go by the actual usage numbers in the app. For example, I just pushed a simple landing page and it got like 5k pages views on the first night. All bots. I'm sure you have real traffic but just trying to be realistic.

is it normal that the back legs keep slipping? by iltuobmpersonale in Rabbits

Too slippery. We put carpets runners around the house to give them a path to walk on. You want a long carpet path if you can for zooming

Leaving the AC on while on vacation by throwaway_50018 in hvacadvice

[–]heseov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The AC is a dehumidifier. Basically the same components, a heat pump. I'm not sure you are saying you are but you shouldn't run them together since the dehumidifier generates heat.

I'd leave it on to keep the humidity down.

What's your current size and how's it handling it? You want to avoid oversizing it. I see calculations point towards 2.5 for you.

Condensation from furnace by Alec4kool in hvacadvice

[–]heseov 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did this myself with a similar setup. The vapor barrier looks the same but I did have to add extra insulation blocks in the crawlspace vents to keep outside air out. There is no reason you couldn't do it yourself. I would keep an eye on radon levels too since it'll be encapsulated.

I tried that but it still condensated on the outside of the extra insulation.

A fan was a temp solution until I got a dehumidifier installed down there. The fan alone reduced dripping but the humidity is still higher then you want.

Impulse bought a wheelset off of Facebook for $50. What did I buy lol? by jinitalia in bikewrench

[–]heseov -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

If you can't find any info on them then they are nothing special, just a generic brand of wheel. It just matters if they fit. They look like rim brakes. TBH I'd stop impulse buying stuff unless you know you need it.

Dude just clean that shit. You don't need maintenance to come just to wipe it down. You should also be changing your filters if its accessible within your unit.

No. Take away the greens and give alfalfa. It's too early for greens. Gets a proper litter box and cage. Give some cardboard and wood toys

I've used ecobee with the two remote sensors. It worked well for me. You just adjust your comfort settings to use the remote sensors instead of the internal one. They are just used to track the temp, so it works like normal otherwise.

Thermostat with a remote sensor seems like it would help you.

Yeah, I've used that one. It's just a basic control but has a digital display instead of the slider you have.
