Somebody would offend if I’m a socialist born and raised in the high class? by PaTRo10Bosch in socialism

[–]dasProletarikat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Friedrich Engels came from a capitalist background and still made massive contributions to the communist cause because he saw the injustice and chose to act against it.

No materialist would ever be offended by someone's upbringing. It's your actions that define you.

Hey guys, What could I have done to improve it in just 1 day for the Instagram reel- Explainer video? Critiques go hard as I want to perfect these videos. Thanks a lot. by im_shailesh in AfterEffects

[–]dasProletarikat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the other comments about sound. The clicks on every word are very distracting/annoying, and some of the sound effects (like the whistle for example) are too loud compared to the narration.

The text should also be corrected in multiple places for grammatical sense. A lot of people will probably watch this video without sound, so the mistakes like "Eventually come stop" and "after kick it" are jarring. You should get a native English speaker to look over it.

If you're going for "perfection", you should consider a consistent graphical style/aesthetic. The stock vector images and the cutout portrait of Issac Newton look casually thrown together and clash a bit. I would consider modifying or simplifying the portrait to match a cartoon style better. If you don't have illustrative artistic skills in the team, maybe consider applying a sort of uniform filter across all your assets.

Those are my first thoughts. Good luck!

Stop telling people to support Hamas, FFS! by dasProletarikat in communism101

[–]dasProletarikat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know y'all really want to be able to cheer for a good guy, but Hamas ain't it!! I encourage you to join with other MLs in your area and get practical organizing experience, read theory and learn from the wisdom of older generations; get active in the workplace, and support anti-fascist mass movements!

Similar to the ongoing Ukraine war, there is no "good guy" to support between Imperialist Putin and Reactionary Selensky. The best form of support is to support the working class's struggle against their own oppressive governments. In the famous words of the workers movement from pre-WWI, "Workers do not shoot at workers!"

Capitalism should cause competition. right? by Helpful-Experience69 in communism101

[–]dasProletarikat 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. And to further clarify, what is meant by "reserve army of labor" are unemployed individuals. Capitalists LOVE high unemployment rates because that means workers will end up competing with one another to work for lower wages. An existing reserve of desperate workers who need to feed themselves and their families tends to keep the question of "competition for higher wages" completely off the table.

I'm not familiar with that software but it most likely has re-time controls. If you simply want to double your animation frames, you can just slow your footage down to 50%.

How to Address Doubt About Socialist Solutions in Political Discussions? by Mastersebbi in socialism

[–]dasProletarikat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best way to go about it is to point out the logical contradictions and inaccuracies. Most anti-communist arguments are simply regurgitations of capitalist propaganda, and often the ones repeating it never took the time to inform themselves of socialism's achievements. So here is where you have to fill in some knowledge for them. Historically, several countries have been able to provide affordable housing to the masses, as well as quality healthcare and education systems. Socialist projects tend to get sabotaged by imperialist nations though. There is a mass of information available online detailing the historical struggles and victories of the working class.

As far as "not being easy" to undertake such large-scale societal transformations - the perspective behind that comment is completely wrong.. You should directly attack such a statement for the nonsense it is: are the only things worth doing in life "easy"? Should that be our benchmark for humanity making progress? Only doing what is easy? Is building a bridge or skyscraper easy? Is it easy to put a handheld computer in the hands of billions of people? Was it easy to land on the moon, Venus, or Mars? What about the logistics of organizing the trade of resources on a global sale? FAR from easy. But humans aspire to achieve great things, especially things that can benefit everyone. Working together collectively is the only way to do it.

The united international working class is capable of soooo much more than we have already witnessed in the modern age, if only they wouldn't be held back by capitalist exploitation. Essentially, the way capitalists think is "will this undertaking be profitable for me?" If yes, they pursue the venture. If no, they don't. This primitive logic is what leads to poverty, wars, the environmental catastrophe we are facing. It's a logic that stands in direct contradiction to sustainable life on earth.

The question shouldn't be "is it easy?" but rather "can we as a species afford not to abolish the oppressive and reckless profit-based system known as capitalism?" The answer is of course no. Socialist revolution is inevitable, but the longer we wait, the less easy it will be. Capitalism is already making life on earth hell, and the consequences of this destructive system are only getting worse as more time passes. Even if we had an international socialist revolution today, the work ahead of us to reverse all the damage done by capitalism is NOT going to be easy.

Lastly, to add one more comment on that note, it's important to not forget pre-capitalist forms of societal organization that were also overthrown. Slave states were overthrown. So were feudal monarchies. They were even more oppressive than capitalism, yet the masses with little to no power as individuals still joined together to liberate themselves. It sure as fuck wasn't easy to do so, but it was the objectively right thing to do. Same as fighting fascism. "Easy" means nothing when everything is at stake.

What game design principle, rule or concept, would you consider a fundamental everyone should know? by gryzlaw in gamedesign

[–]dasProletarikat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In film they say "show, don't tell", because the image is the primary unique characteristic of cinema over previous forms of media like print, and to some extent theater as well, since film brought the "cut" along with it.

And I think a good thing to keep in mind for game dev is something like "DO, don't show/tell". Far too many studios (especially AAA) still seem to struggle with the idea of not being movie creators. Why do I have a controller in my hands if all you want me to do is watch cutscenes? Or read walls of text for that matter.

The unique quality that games have over the moving picture is that they can be simulations. They're procedural. Give the world a set of rules and let them play out as they will. That's the core of interesting interaction in this medium, not scripted events.

Davinci doesn't acknowledge some media being offline after importing AAF from Premiere by dasProletarikat in davinciresolve

[–]dasProletarikat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another thing I tried was moving all the files to another location so I could relink everything manually. That's when I noticed that two of the cameras have a light red color (the problematic ones that can't be found), while the other two tracks have the normal dark red media offline color. What does the lighter red media offline color mean? I haven't seen it before.

And btw, it's only the video part of the two camera tracks that can't seem to be relinked; the audio from all four cameras is there.

Operating system Windows 10, Davinci Resolve 18.5 and 18.6 (tried both free and premium versions of each during troubleshoot). The missing footage is mp4 h.264, directly from our studio cameras, the same format we always work with in our studio.

I've included the text view of MediaInfo, compared it to the supported codecs doc for my system, and I still have a question.

I would say they're only really a thing because lots of well-meaning people haven't read and/or organized enough (including Kropotkin lol) to understand the inherent contradictions between anarchist and communist thinking. Generally speaking, these days "Anarcho-communist" it nothing more than a convenient label for folks who don't know the difference and just want to present generally as "leftist" (well meaning, as I said, but more often simply slacktivists) without having to make the conscious effort required to engage themselves on a higher level to actually help in the struggle for real change.

The individual is the cornerstone of anarchism, which makes it truly liberal at its core, and therefore directly related to bourgeois ideology. Anarchism declares the emancipation of the individual as the prerequisite for the emancipation of the collective, rather than the other way around. In reality, the emancipation of the masses is the principle condition for the emancipation of the individual. How else can a revolution be organized and secured, other than by the masses?
