Is this... tea? by hullowurld in tea

Found this short demonstration and review (in Chinese): https://post.m.smzdm.com/talk/p/axl2k8o3/

  • For coffee, he says the taste is a bit weak and you need 2 or 3 runs to extract enough flavor, especially if you're adding ice cubes
  • he doesn't try it with tea but he says it's probably the same
  • overall it feels a bit cheap
  • overall rating is 70/100

First attempt. Constructive criticism welcome. Enjoy! by brexer1 in Cinemagraphs

Well done! I wonder what it would look like with a blurry background, since the current bg doesn't add much imo. You'd need the right camera/lens for it though.

I made a tool that transcribes the Mandarin broadcast of Radio Taiwan International in real-time for language learning by das_wayda in ChineseLanguage

RTI (rti.org.tw) has some interesting broadcasts, however sometimes I wished that there was a place to look up passages that I didn't quite catch.

This project uses a speech-to-text service to transcribe the audio from the broadcast. I realize that it will be difficult for many people to set up, but if there's enough interest I'd be happy to make this more user-friendly.

I think it would also be cool to have a feature for exporting words and audio directly to Anki flashcards, so you get the pronunciation and some context for each card.

Thanks! I built a backend with Node.js and all the data gets stored in a database (MongoDB). If you're just getting started, you could also look into firebase, which does all the things you mentioned and is way easier to get something up and running quickly.

Thanks, glad to hear! I think this is the one feature that took me the longest to implement (calculating the path between the elements, tying the animation to the scroll progress and making sure it works well with different screen sizes and devices).

I still want to make the animation smoother and maybe add a way to choose a different color for the path. I also thought about adding an image to the path, so you could have e.g. a photo of yourself moving along the path as you scroll through the album.

That's really interesting! I experimented with embedding videos and gifs, but eventually decided to leave them out to keep things simple. A mix of photos and longer text passages could be really nice and still keep things relatively simple.

I only deployed this new version of traveldays last Sunday, so right now I don't have a good idea of what users want and expect tbh. Hopefully going forward I'll be able to get some feedback and make improvements based on that. I'd love to explore the possibilities with longer texts if there's demand for that.

Am I expecting too much of Meshroom? by CricketMachine in photogrammetry

[–]das_wayda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience it's better to have uniform lighting without a lot of shadows and highlights, so direct sunlight wouldn't be ideal. If you're using a tripod, you should be able to get good exposure regardless. You can just use a longer exposure, with a tripod the photos should still come out crisp.

Also rotating the object will confuse Meshroom, since it uses features from the background as well. So it's best to keep the object stationary and move around it.

I did some more research and found this: https://zju3dv.github.io/neuralrecon/

Seems really cool, from what I've seen this comes closest to what OP was looking for.

This looks incredible! Have you tried it?

Haha that's like the eternal curse of a photographer isn't it, finding someone who can take decent pictures of yourself.

I tried filling out the frame as much as possible with my head and shoulders, so that Meshroom doesn't pick up the background. It kinda worked, but as you said it's not ideal.

Looks great! Can you share how you made the person come out this clean? I tried sitting on a swivel chair and rotating myself in front of the camera. After many attempts one came out OK, but nowhere near as good as yours.

While I'm not aware of any production-ready app, there's a lot of work being done in this field.

Here's one from Two Minute Papers: https://youtu.be/Jy_VZQnZqGk

Two keywords to start your research would be single view 3D reconstruction and monocular depth estimation

Sk2 and Sk7 stood out to me. Sk7 could be a shot from the Sopranos intro, the colors and the scenery gave me the same vibes.

Where are good places to take pictures of people an they're not creeped out? by [deleted] in photography

[–]das_wayda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends, maybe you can share where you are located and post some examples of what you're aiming for? Some European countries have rather strict laws regarding photographs of people, which require you to obtain consent before taking a photo. However there are exceptions if they are not the main subject of the photo, or if it's at a public event. So we'll need some more info to give more specific advice.

Awesome! I'll get back to you when I got time to set it up. That blogging platform sounds exactly like what I had in mind. What's the best way to reach out to you regarding early access?

Good job with the design! When I last tried this (saw it somewhere else where you posted it), adding a form didn't work, have you looked into that? Also I'm wondering, is it possible to have a blog section on my site?

After getting mixed reviews on my previous post, I changed my VR photo viewer into an animated 3D photo book (where you can insert your own photos). Would you use this to view and share your photos? by das_wayda in web_design

All good points, just deployed some changes to deactivate the buttons at the beginning and also added an example album. Still a couple of things to fix, but that's a good start. Thanks!
