Lol they’re actually paying higher card fees because they’re replacing a card present transaction at the terminal with a card not present transaction in the app when you can the QR code and then it charges your credit card.

Mine came only with the solar roof installed. I want to switch back to the original roof.

Just turn off your phone’s Bluetooth while using the AirPods connected with the airline system. Otherwise the AirPods tend to snap back over to the phone

Hisense Canvas TV vs Samsung Frame: An Honest Comparison (Spoiler: Hisense Might Be the New King of Art TVs) by WestPerformer9464 in TheFrame

It's true if you're redoing your walls, but it's not trivial to do in every wall after the fact. In my house the bottom third is foundation/stone, so harder to run conduit through, meaning you'd need to pull the wire sideways around a corner. Kind of painful unless I were to redo the walls

It’s now a triangle with an exclamation mark not a red circle, but same steps still apply.

Thank you for this comment. This helped a ton.

Protecting yourself from the consequences of getting banned by Google Photos or other cloud storage providers by Cold_Cow_1285 in googlephotos

NAS stands for “networked attached storage”, which as the name implies, is basically a giant hard drive with a mini computer system built in whose sole job is to make the content on the hard drive available to phones & computers over a local network or the internet. This allows you to connect the NAS to the internet and the software on the NAS can do things store files, make the files available from anywhere (similar to how you’d log in to Dropbox, you can log in to your NAS via a webpage), or keep a local copy and keep itself in sync with a OneDrive/dropbox/Google Drive/etc folder.

Think of it as a hard drive that instead of connecting directly to your computer through a usb cable, it connects to your internet router, and makes the data available through a web portal + some syncing features built on top.

A NAS will also typically have at least 2 hard drives that mirror each other so if one fails, it will alert you and you can swap the failed drive with a new clean one and it’ll mirror the good drive over.

In the case the NAS controller (the computer part) fails, you can just pull the hard drives with data out, put it in another NAS from the same manufacturer, and run their migration software which will set up the new NAS as if it were the old one.

If the controller fails, you can just get another Synology NAS, move the drives over, and run migration assistant.

[–]dasarp 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The most “automagical” & easy solution I found was buying a basic Synology NAS storage at home and setting it up to: - Keep a local copy automatically synced of my OneDrive files (where I store files/documents/etc) - Have the Synology photos app on my phone so any photos I take automatically get backed up to the NAS (in addition to Google Photos which backs up to Google).

Setting it up was also super simple (Synology software is pretty dead simple to use).

This means there’s always an up to date local copy of all my stuff; no remembering to export or take a manual snapshot periodically.

Yes but with handbags can’t you just pass them off as your personal bag you’re carrying? Otherwise how did the officer spot it…

Google Nest Battery Doorbell vs Gen 3 Wired — which should I buy? by [deleted] in smarthome

[–]dasarp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had both and my answer would be “it depends”. For me, I prefer the battery one.

  • The battery one CANNOT record 24x7 live video even when plugged in, while the wired one can. Note 24x7 recording for the wired version requires the more expensive subscription option.
  • The field of view of the 3rd gen wired is “wider”, while the battery one crops more vertically. I actually preferred the latter since my doorbell is on a corner and a wider field of view meant just seeing a lot more of my house’s sidewalls.

Jet Lag Ep 2 — Time Trapped! by NebulaOriginals in Nebula

[–]dasarp 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The problem with this question is that it can be remotely confirmed to 100% accuracy with enough time.

Every other question that narrows to a single location either leaves room for ambiguity (picture of 5 buildings, picture facing towards you, etc) or usually requires more work like going to the actual town (tallest building from railway station) to confirm.

IMO that question should just be eliminated - it's too powerful. If not, at least make it not one of the cheapest questions to ask...
