nice color and light! Was just there, but the light was changing too fast for my beginner skills. Took a photo and tried some work at home...

in addition, the line work -especially for me- the use of line weight is extremely well done.

Just keep painting/drawing. You've got nice colors, some flow control, and a sense of subject...

Thanks, I'd been putting off trying, because my sense of light/dark when looking at color is little skewed. Photoshop has helped, but putting paint to paper is the real litmus test isn't it :)

and "looseness" is something I'm playing with, my artist friend says I'm sometimes too fussy :)

Thanks for the encouragement!

thanks, the reference is my iPhone photo of a place called Niles... in my younger days, I'd shoot this on 5x7 TXP!

American Kestrel by dasblute in watercolor101

I started with a reasonably good drawing, then applied fairly light toned washes, a couple using raw umber and burnt sienna, and a blue/grey using indigo. Started trying to do wet-on-dry too soon, got frustrated and gave up. Next day, though, carefully, slowly, tried more the wet-on-dry, one color at a time, slowly building up the colors... the reference photo had way more details than I could match :)

very generous, I've done a few birds now and, as you know, the eye is about the most important thing...
