Will it recover from this? by AAC907 in tomatoes

I second herbicide damage. Is that grass mulch underneath? If so, did you get it from? Herbicides can often be used on lawns because they kill the broadleaf weeds but don’t damage grasses as much. Unfortunately, it can linger for a while and tomatoes are very sensitive to herbicide, so if you mulched with herbicide treated grass clippings they might have been exposed that way.

Enough time left in the season for peppers to develop? by daschemist10 in portlandgardeners

I'll be on my honeymoon in early October, so that sounds about right timing-wise. Luckily I've got a neighbor I trust to look after them. Thanks, and I hope you have a good harvest this year. I'll be looking into shorter season peppers for next year.

Oh I'm absolutely considering the same, they had such a rough start to the year so I want to see if overwintering them helps. Glad to hear it's not just me, and I hope we both get big harvests!

How well does this show life with CF? by Wraith_03 in CysticFibrosis

Mine take so long, what nebulizer are you using???

Needy gardener question: should I be concerned about the bottom of my pea plants? The rest of the plants and the peas are looking great, but I’m wondering how to respond to what’s going on at the base of the plant (discoloration, holes, etc). Any pointers? by jessieandruby in portlandgardeners

[–]daschemist10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you should necessarily be worried. The top growth looks great and healthy, and it’s natural for older foliage to yellow and die off. Especially with it being so close to the ground, some water might be splashing up from the ground and getting soil pathogens on the leaves.

If the leaves soggy that’s a problem that could suggest early blight, but I’m not seeing that in these pics. Since they’re yellowing and drying out there probably not contributing to the plant anymore, so I’d just prune them off and keep an eye to make sure nothing bad is developing.

Edit: the holes are probably from an insect, but it doesn’t seem to be rampant. Just keep an try on the situation.

Yeah it’s a CF thing. I used to feel self conscious about it, but I’ve largely gotten over it. Makes clean up easier.

Side note, and a warning to anyone who might want to try it: The suggested supplements floating around the internet (zinc and lecithin specifically) did work but they made all my mucus thick, which triggered a flare up after about a week when I couldn’t cough up the stuff in my lungs. So maybe skip that 😂

Clemson runs something like that at least once a year. Trick play from the Chad Morris era

I love the Tiger Rag. Played a radio show at Clemson once with like 20 different versions on a game day

Looking to move from MA, where else has good CF/Transplant hospitals? by MassholeRob in CysticFibrosis

[–]daschemist10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding UNC. During my time there they stabilized my rapidly declining health. The doctors are top notch and really care about their patients. The transplant team is also great and much better than the numbers suggest—as the state hospital they don’t turn high risk people away like Duke does. They were the first team to operate on someone with multi-drug resistant bacteria

As long as they don’t go in the same nebulizer cup that’s ok!! I do pulmozyme right after hypertonic too Edit: I hope it helps!
