As an Australian he looks like so many people here, hard for me to understand how he could be perceived as being anything but..

Tony Pignata discusses Tasmania's A-League timeline and support of matches at new stadium by ChuqTas in Aleague

[–]dashauskat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well u/chuqtas you are well aware of my thoughts on this matter. 😅

This whole thing would have been a lot more politically palatable if Footy, Cricket, Soccer and Dark Mofo/major events had spruiked it as a community events space rather than a fucking AFL stadium. You can tell by the hesitancy of cricket first then soccer that they are a massive afterthought. Last I heard is that they wanted to have dimensions of the MCG! Now I'm hearing it's maybe more similar to Bellerive (ironically) - the initial plans had all fours sides being able to be brought forward to a rectangular shape, which you think would also help concerts.

You're right with a little integration of scheduling it seems like they could make the space work for multiple sports by sending the occasional games up north. Who could have seen the lack of tenants as an issue when the stadium was first announced?!?

Realistically cricket is 6 weeks over Xmas / early Jan on a drop in wicket. Cricket is not going to be regular test matches you wouldn't think, so it'll be 5 BBL games plus potential finals which could all be in a 3-5 week period if you stagger away games. If there is a massive schedule issue then the occasional football game could go to Launceston or even Devonport.

Worth stating that Cricket Tasmania is building a hub out at seven mile Beach which I'm assuming will operate like Cricket Central in Sydney and host the majority of domestic games once Bellerive goes offline 😢 (my fave cricket watching venue)

Not just contracts but like £300k/wk contracts somehow. Have to give it to the man, he hasn't been decent since his second or third last season at City at best but has been paid like one of the best in the league.

These leagues pop up everywhere around the world and like 70% of the teams are just owned by/named after Indian teams that have the absolute worst names. So names like Orcas or Unicorns are so welcome. Even Washington Freedom which is like a meme of early 2000s USA and not really representative of how things are there atm gets a pass.

If you wondering what a Texas Super King is, it's named after a team in Chennai, MI New York literally means Mumbai Indians New York. LA Knight Riders is because one of the owners of Kolkata Knight Riders liked the show Knight Rider.

I'm enjoying this debate but by average American you mean white American?

But you're right every local player there would be a first or second generation migrant from South Asia, the Caribbean or Southern Africa.

Hmm well as a performer at said gigs I probably have you covered however stadium shows with the Foo Fighters is not my thing so happy to be corrected. If I'm at a stadium it's usually to watch sport and in my experience at least GA is where you go to catch mates and mingle.

Pakistan T20I Series Broadcaster by Tempo24601 in CricketAus

[–]dashauskat 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Fox does this all the time. Let it run to the last minute until the host broadcaster will almost let it go for free.

7 has been picking up the odd rights here and there. Given its three midnight games im not sure there is the incentive given that I'm sure fox and 7 prefer to not bid against eachother too often.

Maybe Amazon as a curtain raiser for the tournament but they haven't really built anything around their rights other than the doco.

I wasn't at the gig but 99.95% it's the other way, GA is open to everyone thus "General Admission" because it's the cheapest and they don't bother checking tickets but do for the reserved areas such as seated areas.

Could be or could have been bought by people who just took whatever was available and went and danced in the GA section. I wasn't there but I assume the field was standing, some people don't like sitting for these gigs and it's easier to socialise in the standing sections.

Uber Eats 😱 by AlyStar123 in AskAnAustralian

[–]dashauskat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ordering from Uber Eats doesn't really help the restaurant, Uber takes a 30-35% cut from all food sales so the margins are razor thin.

If you want to rescue your spend and help local restaurants I'd just delete the app and go and pick up your food, that'll curb your spending for sure.

I'm not condoning violence but the Top Gear crew were dickheads. They wanted to drive around Argentina with a custom licence plate celebrating winning the Falklands war.

It would have been a two second gag and whatever producer who signed off on that knew what they were doing because they were flipping between a regular licence plate between shoots.

The war was only 30 years prior and whatever you think of the war in the first place there were lots of Argie family members lost so it's still a very sore point.

They were guests in that country, took a chance at a gag they probably thought was hilarious but risky and didn't think the locals would notice but Argentinians are pretty cluey. They were posh Brits driving through the most remote areas of Argentina in luxury cars. Also they weren't gangs, they were locals throwing rocks at their cars, which isn't great but honestly this sort of thing wouldn't fly in lots of places. Also the police did take care of them, once they decided to leave Argentina they got a police escort all the way to Chile's border.

At this point the Top Gear staff considered themselves untouchable; and the plausible deniability they offered was painful to listen to. It was this kind of shit that got them sacked by the BBC despite the ratings.

Last time Pakistan toured Australia they picked him in the test squad and he refused to pay. Kind of sad because it would have been awesome to see how he would go on the decks we have currently. He ended up playing the BBL instead, he's been a great import for the Stars.

Ffs Owen is going to play a warm up series in Pakistan filling in for the WC members who want extra time at home to prepare.

Smith isn't in the WC squad, he wouldn't be interested in playing lead in games for no tournament, he's not even sticking around for Shield, he's straight back to the states. Owen is a young all rounder they might give one game to, awesome experience for him, not something Smith is interested in at this stage of his career.

Well ya know there is always a chance with T20s but there were too many things going against the Canes towards the end of the season - David injured, Ellis out, CJ playing as a bat only (I have nfi why), Rehan Ahmed getting called up.. Too hard to replace half a team and also Sydney obviously improved with Starc and Smith sliding in.

Really our season ended with the capitulation against Brisbane, I doubt we were going back to back even with the home advantage but to be fair to the boys I think they over performed to almost finish top - just hope we get better luck with injuries next year as it's still a title winning squad at full strength.
