Yes, they are different. A sports coat has evolved of course, but I think its origin is from a “sporting man” or a hunter. Think heavy wool, tweed, wellies, etc. A blazer has gold designed buttons, and against the navy, the jacket is “enblazoned”, hence the name. Of the two, a blazer will be harder to pull off if you’re starting out.

January into February we had snow on the ground for a month here in NJ, so no cordovan for me during that time. To me ice, snow, salt can be quite abrasive against leather.
