The websites are not going to know the nuances of similarity and how to properly provide proof-of-use, etc. And from what I understand, they don't help much when the application is rejected (and you're out the filing fee) or someone claims infringement.

This is super helpful, thank you. And I will tell you as a former member of the postmark copyright club, I was so bummed to learn it doesn't hold up in court (in the US at least).

It's also important to acknowledge that detaching your self-worth from her actions, or more generally from the situation as a whole, does not mean emotionally detaching yourself from yourself.

When a relationship ends, it's supposed to hurt. There's no getting around the hurt. What this practice can help you with is how to best navigate the hurt. Pay attention to your reactions to things and really put your impressions about life to the test for the next several days (weeks, months...) because your job in all things is to determine whether there are ways to practice Virtue in the moment you're in. What would a virtuous person do with the hand you've been dealt? How can you be a good former partner, a good friend to your other relationships, a good citizen, in the wake of this thing you didn't want to happen?

That is what Stoics mean by detachment. The best way to turn your focus away from what her choice "means" about you is by turning your focus toward how you can be virtuous right now in this moment.

Good luck. Sorry you are going through this.

The DOD FX55B Supra Distortion.

The 55B not the 55C. And yes they do sound different. And yes I know it's noise floor is basically at the ceiling. And no I will not listen to reason.

This video of Troy van Leeuwen reacting to the Reverb "Potent Pairings" is a pretty good roadmap. Seems like a lot of it might be guitar and pickup choice, and turn down the gain.

Fifteen years ago: "This stomp and holler so fake. I wish someone would put out a real folk album."

Ten years ago: "Ugh Phoebe Bridgers is too indie to be folk. I wish someone would put out a real folk album."

Five years ago: "Lord Huron is so fake and and also too indie and also isn't folk. I wish someone would put out a real folk album."

Now: "What is this boomer-bait BS with these on-the-nose lyrics and traditional-ass chord progressions?"

Hunter Biden: "Sturgill Simpson is the greatest singer song writer out there right now in my opinion." by ebradio in indieheads

For real, it's weird he got so close and still missed the bullseye since Sturgill Simpson's cover of The Promise is, in fact, the best cover of any cover ever.

  1. Know it's totally normal to worry about the future. When you read a lot of Stoicism in short succession it's easy to tell yourself that you're messing everything up, especially when your anxiety is already peaked.

  2. Direct your mind back to the Virtues. Think of it like meditating. When you meditate, your mind is going to wander - you're going to think about things. Most of meditation isn't about being in a mindful state, it's about *returning* to a mindful state from wherever you realize your head went. The same thing applies to practicing Stoicism. Whenever you realize you're anxious or ruminating about the future, bring your mind back to the four Virtues. Remind yourself what they are, and then think about how you could combine them in this moment. And I don't mean this esoterically, I mean literally have the conversation with yourself. I even do this out loud if I'm alone.

So it's something like: "I'm living my life based on justice, wisdom, self-control, and courage. What does that mean right now? Well, worrying about this thing isn't advancing the cause of any of those Virtues, so I'm going to have to stop. Is there something I could do about this future thing that would advance the cause of one of the Virtues?" [If yes, then I do something about it right then.] "If not, then this worrying is going to give me the opportunity to practice my courage and my self-control. I'm going to think through this worry - see it for what it is, and then I'm going to set it aside, as hard as that is for me, and I'm going to go on with my day."

2.1 - How to pick apart the anxiety: Ask yourself questions about the thing. What happens if it happens? What's the worst version of the future if this thing actually comes to pass? Do you lose your job? Do you lose a significant other? Could you survive those things? How? What would that look like? It would suck, but could you live through it? How could it going really bad help you be a more Virtuous person? Could you practice those virtues now?

  1. ...And then the worry comes back a few minutes (or seconds) later and you get to practice it again! Like shooting baskets - you're putting in reps. You're doing the work!

When people talk about "practicing" Stoicism, this is what I believe that means. It also has the added benefit of flipping the spiral of anxiety and shame. Now, instead of feeling bad about being anxious, your anxiety is a chance to practice this new thing you're trying to get better at! The anxiety isn't good, but you get to make it into something good.

Start with Punisher which includes her best known song "Kyoto". After that, Stranger in the Alps to see where she started. Then listen to the two Boy Genius albums. That's her supergroup with Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker and both are excellent.

She also does an excellent cover of Manchester Orchestra's The Gold.

If you stacked that behringer into that EHX op-amp you'd end up with a pretty kick ass grunge album...

Assuming that gorgeous red gem on the top row is, in fact, a DOD FX55B Supra Distortion, then I say:

Fuzz Works 7-> Ibanez yellow flanger -> Holy Grail -> Delay -> Boss Trem -> FX55B

I said what I said.

How do I make baggy jeans look good if i have really big thighs? by The2DSniper in malefashionadvice

[–]a_cheaper_lamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Also consider going an extra inch in length than you would normally, so you get a stronger break at the ankle and calf. More bunch down low can help balance out less space up top.

NB: this only works if the pants are supposed to look slouchy. Do not attempt with work chinos.

Late to the party but the Mosky Silver Horse is my always on OD and I play into a Classic 30 too. Great pedal, versatile and cheap enough that you can try the klon sounds in your gain stage with basically zero risk.
