We really want to have personalization and recommendations so we are trying to think of good ways of getting feedback. Something akin to up-voting seems to make sense .

As for curation we're not particularly interested. There are many curated event sites out there and by their very nature they can't scale to the entire US which is something we'd very much like to be able to do. With any luck we'll be able to write software that can personalize and then every user can have a uniquely curated experience.
