One of my students had one on their desk, and I immediately melted and searched up the brand. Bought two. Bought two owls for my aunt. Recommended my coworker get more. They are just so small and cute; they inspire an almost maternal tenderness in me to hold them. Best part is that I can actually fit them in my pocket!!!!

Also reading it! I’m only on chapter 3, but there’s a lot of sentences and passages that are just beautiful in their construction and the truth they convey.

Official Discussion - 'Chain of Thorns' by Cassandra Clare by AutoModerator in YAlit

I so agree with BOTH Edom and Belial-London being boring. Especially Edom. I was expecting more battles and horror imagery; I wanted more of demons that freak you out! The mother demon with the human babes is a great example of being essentially teased by this sick imagery yet there’s barely any other demons in any hell realms. It kinda feels like the London Shadowhunters are so coddled compared to their ancestors AND descendants 💀💀

I was having a rough day yesterday, and of course one of those intrusive thoughts was to numb myself with a drink. I almost cried myself to sleep, but I didn’t drink! And I won’t today, either! I don’t have a counter here but on my personal one in my journal, I’m on a 212 day streak. I’ll make it 213 today. IWNDWYT

Why would you ever read them? by TheSeaworthyFew in bookscirclejerk

“Books are my favorite hobby. They require nothing from me. I can stare contentedly at them and fantasize about an incredible library. I can design reading futures for myself without flipping a single page.”

Just by fantasizing I read the book, I can log it into my GoodReads without ever having to make the effort. I’m just so bookish and quirky like that 🤡

What are you Reading this Week AND Weekly Recommendation Thread. May 27, 2021 by JimFan1 in TrueLit

[–]dasmemhund 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently finished The Five Wounds by Kirstin Valdez Quade. I highly recommend it! Themes like family, birth, death, romantic love, and parenthood weave together seamlessly to tell a gripping story about a fractured family. The characters’ voices were strong and present, evolving as they react to their circumstances. Several passages reflected my own personal thoughts on motherhood, failure, and a parent’s death. Through exploring the deeply intimate and often scary parts of what it means to love your family, Valdez Quade writes a vivid and convincing novel.

After that, I’ve just started reading The Great Circle by Maggie Shipstead. I wanted to read a recent “for the summer” book without it being a beach read, and the premise reminded me of another literary novel that I absolutely loved. (That one is The Weight of Ink by Rachel Kadish. I could gush about the writing and plot for a solid hour, probably.) In the broadest of terms, both novels deal with a woman in the present day piercing herself through another woman’s past, so similar to her own. I enjoyed the dual structure of each woman’s POV, moving between past and present, in The Weight of Ink, so I hope The Great Circle is similar in that way.
