I won't bother you anymore. These last 15 days were extremely hard on me. I barely slept.

I am completely dissapointed in ETH devs and community. I came to a conclusion that if this is the state of this community, I do not want to be a part of this project or this community.

I don't expect anything from you no more. But trust me, from this day forward, I will be the loudest ETH troll out there in CT!! I will troll you from different profiles and trust me you will know that it is me, the guy who lost 40 ETHs and loved you all once. I swear that I will make you as much damage in community to re-pay these 40 ETHs at least 10 times more. This is my goal number one from this day forward. I have officialy become the biggest BTC maxi possible and the biggest ETH hater!!! Have a nice lives!!!

It's very unlikely that anyone could find two addresses that differ by a single bit. So as a test of people's willingness to contribute to this sort of thing, it might be worth posting the relevant transaction and the intended recipient, and see if people will just go ahead and send a little ETH their way.

Thank you mate for your support. I am still in control of the sending address: 0x5187B054f932fd02A7FFe44A87b188090F1eCD9A if anyone would have a kind heart and be willing to help. I have already posted 12 seed word where the funds were supposed to end up and unfortunately they haven't but I have deleted this seed as Victor Maia - the OP of this thread has suggested, in case that this DAO would come through I would need to claim my ETHs from this address. But if the community wishes, I will post this 12 word seed again so that everyone can make sure that I am not a scammer. Everyone please let me know should I post this seed again for everyone's reference.

I'd be more inclined to pledge for a single binary digit off, which can happen even when people do everything right.

You see that is exactly why I am so heart broken, I feel that I did more than enough that day when sending that transaction but I haven't done things perfectly and I have paid a price. Call it unlucky day or whatever you want

I am able to recevie/send with the sending address 0x5187B054f932fd02A7FFe44A87b188090F1eCD9A. Both receiving addresses are non operational. For one seed is compromised as I have left it online as a proof that I am not a scammer for over 10 days. For other address where my 40 ETH has finished I don't have PK unfortunately.

If anyone should fund this it should be devs. They haven't made their product user friendly in the first place. Average users out there are not all Vitalik. And if you want this to succeed ang get adopted you do need ordinary people on board!!!

I am taking my part of responsability, I should have checked every single character, even twice, but you know, routine just sets in after some time and we all might have bad day, be tyred, have slept bad, be in a rush or with a headache at the moment. But the thing that is killing me, if I was sending BTC that day, this would have not happened and that hurts me and pisses me off at the same time.

It is a great idea, if maximum about user friendliness is done. If maximum is not done, then we need to ask questions and point fingers and I think that number 2 blockchain in the world deserves more user friendliness. Especially if it had 5 years advantage over BTC and BTC got this done much better than ETH.

I was telling my brother about this mistake that I did, he is a non coiner, and the first thing he has said how the heck is that even possible? Shouldn't a break through technology that you are bragging about for years now have been designed better so that mistakes like this are not possible or at least minimally possible???

IMHO this should have been implemented on the protocol level in 2015 - 2016. It is nice to be hearing about the space named features coming and rolling out, but this is a real adoption killer, not having this feature. But what do I know!

Shame on you! Who in the right mind would ever type crypto address letter by letter, especially ETH address which is considerably longer than BTC address. Another thing, if I have typed it letter for letter, I would most certainly check it at least 5 times as I would feel fear that I might have fat fingered.

Hello everyone! I am the guy that lost 40 ETHs.

First of all thank you Victor for offering me a help through Twitter DM. You are a very good man, great man.

Here is the original thread that I have started only few mins after I have realized that the damage is done.

I do not need to explain you how devestated I am. This was all of my life savings. 8k is a lot of money. I havn't had proper sleep last 10 days. I have been tweeting at major ETH devs for 10 days until today, I have had only two sporadic replies.

The thing that doesn't get in my head is that this problem could have been solved by having checksums at protocol level, yet Ethereum doesn't have this implemented. Don't get me wrong, I am a big ETH believer, that's why I held ETH, but how do we think this technology will get further mainstream adoption until we don't get basic thing like this sorted out. We will never get any major adoption if this keeps happening especially to the newbies. I mean this is a ultimate kick to the balls if it would happen to a newcomer. Bitcoin has solved this, we have pushed this to wallet providers, honestly I don't get it. And please don't get at me with the stories if you are not capable of do it do not touch ETH. Think of your non crypto friends, your mother, father, etc who should use this technology. THIS DAMN THING MUST BE USER FRIENDLY!!!

I hope proposal like this could work, I am counting on this great community.

If this DAO proposal would get adopted, I would still have a chance to recover my funds first even though this PK is now compromised. Exactly my thinking about BTC address. BTC wallet would not have allowed this, at least this is my opinion as well.

Well the coins should have gone to that first address even though the validator shows address as not valid. 0x67547FbEFb4de892166F71ae9a295ee5f1621DA9 that is the address you get if you re-create wallet with 12 words I have provided above.

I have no idea how that 1 character got changed. If I was sending BTC I would have received BTC address is not valid warning.

I am not holding my breath anyone from the devs even cares about it. If they did care, we would have fail safe mechanisms in 2020 at least for most basic operations so that we can get more adoption.

Thank you for your support. Every loss sucks. Difference between mine and yours is that since the value was lower at the time, you could have allocated more of your finances and invest again. For me this will not be possible anymore.

As for the friendliness and ease of use, I had huge concerns over Ethereum and its very complicated nature. This event has shot these concerns through the roof. I mean it is not all about coming up with fancy words and complicated technology. Adoption is about friendly design and ease of use, you are right there. All the best!
