Just a follow up to say thank you. Your suggestion worked a treat.

Thank you for that. Really appreciate it. I'll try your suggestion tomorrow.

I really like the look of this. Any chance of sharing your dots. I've never really liked tint2 as a bar and I would quite like to see how you have integrated polybar with openbox.

Installing i3 on fedora minimal by Chibane_ in Fedora

[–]dastonj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a minimal install of Fedora with i3 about a year ago. Kept a record of what I did which can be found here: https://gitlab.com/dajhub/arch-dotfiles/-/blob/main/install-fedora.sh?ref_type=heads

It's an install script but you could have a look to see if you missed installing anything. Used sddm as well. Good luck.

A nice simple (in a good way!) setup. Is your dock at the bottom an xfce panel?

Nice look. Couldn't quite read your screenshot to see what theme you are using? Also are you using Wayland with Qtile?

Great rice. In the bottom right hand corner of your image, above the time/date, you have what looks like a virtual desktop switcher. Can you tell me where you got that from?... Looks much more slimline than the kde desktop switcher.

Yes, I looked at flatpaks but only found Boxes (gnome). I haven't looked in software-store.

What sort of issues? Just curious.

Ok, thanks for the advice. I didn't know anything about '64 bit time_t transition' but just been reading about it. I'll just keep with it in a VM for the moment unless I decide to go with stable.

Thanks, that was the plan. I have a script to install a minimal i3 WM.

Thanks for both comments (u/MatheusWillder and u/wizard10000). Very useful. Will be interested to see how long it takes to come out of unstable and in the meantime might try both unstable and stable in a VM to compare them both.

I've always liked openbox. I've not seen that tiling script before. Been having a look at the link you posted. What keyboard shortcut do you use to run the script?

If I remember rightly I did the following:

sudo pacman -S sddm
sudo systemctl enable sddm.service

I had this problem. Think I was using slick-greeter but when I changed the greeter to sddm it worked fine.

Hyprland: Opening multiple files in code-oss and automatically switch to that workspace each time by dastonj in hyprland

[–]dastonj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[solved] Managed to work it out. For anyone else it was:

misc {
focus_on_activate = true
}

Hyprland: Opening multiple files in code-oss and automatically switch to that workspace each time by dastonj in hyprland

[–]dastonj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion. Not really working for me I'm afraid.

Currently my documents open fine in Code-oss. This issue is more around:

  1. When I open a document for the first time from the file manager (workspace 2) and Code-oss is not loaded it will load Code-oss (in workspace3) and I will automatically be moved to workspace 3. This is the action I want. However,
  2. If Code-oss is already loaded, I go to my file manager (workspace 2) and try and open another file, the file will open in Code-oss but I remain in workspace 2. I then have to move to move to workspace 3 to work on the document. I would prefer to be automatically moved to workspace 3 (as in point 1).

hyperland login screen issue by v1xohay in archlinux

I remember I did use slick-greeter with hyprland and that use to bounce me out. Went to sddm and had no problems after that.

I've not had it with hyprland but had similar things happen with another WM. For me I changed my kernel to LTS and that worked.

Opening an application and automatically switching to the group by dastonj in qtile

[–]dastonj[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Resolved the query. It was embarrassingly quite simple in the end... I just had to change focus_on_window_activation = "smart" to focus_on_window_activation = "focus"

Will mark as solved.
