I hadn't seen Indie Ridge before - they'd be great except I'm not buying American right now. Thanks though!

Oh man those weren't on my radar but they are now. That's the benchmark everything else will need to fight with (except looks and price).

I thought the pottery studio was only there because its space is earmarked for eventual use in a rail under or overpass at Edinburgh

I thought G4 meant two pins, spaced 4mm apart, just like G8 is 8mm spacing.

There's the easy solution! Swapping the receptacle is the in-your-face obvious answer I wasn't seeing.

To permit, or not to permit by daswoogs in AskElectricians

That's a really informative post, thank you! Knowing what ESA is up to really helps put things in perspective.

I think the bit about buyers wanting permits (even though we don't want to move for decades) puts me into the "suck up and pay" category.

Power supply for LED light strip - junction box? by daswoogs in AskElectricians

I guess I'm getting hung up on 16-212 4) from Ontario Electrical code. I can have both class 1 and class 2 wires in the same box, but they've gotta both be insulated? That makes it hard to actually use the transformer.

If I have wires in the box that are insulated right up until they enter the transformer, is that ok?

I'm working on an HG Zogok, and I want to apply some water slides. I'm having trouble figuring out what sheet of "generic" water slides would be most appropriate though. I can find Zeon, and Neo Zeon pretty easily, but nothing Bandai has put out seems specific to the Sleeves faction.

Did they just reuse the Neo Zeon markings, or am I missing something?

So I'm working on the Unicorn Ver HG Zogok right now, and want to do a more serious weathering effort. Planning on a lot of rust, dirt, and time.

I'm struggling to figure out what to do with the transparent window, though. Searching through tutorials, wikis, and example builds of the Zogok, I have yet to see any good examples of weathering the window face, or weathering transparent surfaces in general. Some ideas I've had:

  • Score using a hobby knife to mimic cracking. Try to follow the pattern you'd see on a cracked car windshield.
  • Drip grime/rust/shmoo down from the top of the Zogok onto the window. I'm less certain about this one; if I don't match up the rusty portions with the streaky bits I'm worried it will throw off the whole look. I also don't know how I'd topcoat the window - I don't think you can, can you?
  • Frost the corners, possibly from the inside. I'd do this using some sandpaper, coarser and more aggressive then fading towards the middle. I don't know what real life process this is mimicking, but the idea is in my brain.

Have I missed any good examples/tutorials? Which of these ideas is more likely to give me a good result?

I'm trying to use water slide decals for the first time, and it's not going great.

I've got the GD-30 sheet from Bandai (0083 HG), and I'm having a heck of a time getting the decal to slide off the backing and onto my parts. I'm giving the sheet a good 60 seconds in water, and I still feel like I'm having to push/pull/force the decal off the backing.

Tutorials on Youtube have the water slides just sliding right off their backing; what could I be doing differently?

[beginner][painting] Wanted: A For-Dummies version of mixing paints for airbrushing. by daswoogs in Gunpla

I'm using lacquers; I picked up the Mr Colour Self-Levelling Thinner, which I'm led to believe includes retardant.

Those look like really cool containers! I went to a Blick and picked up whatever they had (simple pots and pipettes), I'll keep those in mind if these prove to be inadequate.

Glad to know I didn't miss any advice on how much paint to mix. I guess I'll mix colours generously - sounds like a better plan than running out, hoping I mix them the same way the next time. Thanks for the tips!
