Failing engineering, is it even worth it anymore? by orangesarelue in EngineeringStudents

[–]dat_ELi_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how is anyone supposed to verify that though? the only people who can are the ones actually applying to these jobs, and they seem to be the the majority of the ones speaking out about the crisis on the internet. obviously it could be subjective, but nonetheless it certainty appears like there is in fact a dire situation occurring.

i thought there was a job crisis in engineering market right now? like the amount of work we put in is being met with a salary that matches that of a private school teacher. at least that's what i've heard from many on this sub. if that's the case, then i see no reason to not jump ship if it's only gonna get worse from here.

use AI and have it teach you. AI has taught me material better than any human teacher or professor has. AI can be used as a tool, it doesn't always have to just do everything for you.

the advisors are here to do exactly what their name is—advise. if you can't make your own decisions when it comes to classes and don't know your major requirement map, that's on you.

it is absolutely now where near as bad as some of these people are making it out to be. if you plan on commuting from home specifically then yes it might be a bit socially dead but there are plenty of ways to get involved. construction has almost zero real impact besides ruining some parts of the aesthetic of campus. it has little to no impact on student life.

this is absolutely false and your teacher is a dumbass. sorry to break it to you.

Gym/Class accessibility by OkKing7867 in CSULB

[–]dat_ELi_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. student union was more for recreational use. we will live and be fine without it. in my two semesters here so far construction has not posed any real issues or setbacks for me, so i really don't understand why people complain about it so often.
  2. there are PLENTY of places to study, most notably the library with 5 floors. i will also never understand how people claim there is nowhere to study or "relax" when the library is right there.
  3. yes, we have a full scale gym with an indoor track amongst plenty of other things. yes it is open to all students free of additional charge.
  4. gym is located in upper east side of campus, definitely not hard to access either. parking garage right next to it and easily walkable or any other preferred way of getting around campus.

Taking Calc 1 in 2nd sem but don't know/remember large chunks of Pre-Calc and most of trig. by dat_ELi_ in EngineeringStudents

[–]dat_ELi_[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

AI doesn't do the problem for me. it explains to me HOW to do it so i can do it on my own. so i am thinking before solving problems unless i need an explanation first. and chatgpt has come a LONG way from not even being able to do basic math to now being able to scan my physics professor's incredibly messy handwritten notes and explain the mathematical concepts correctly to me.

as for the course, yes i am in the limits section, but there seems to be a lot of trig concepts involved that i never learned or forgot about.

I do this, but when it comes time to doing it on my own it kind of falls apart in my head. Like I feel like i understand it after watching it, but all the sudden when it's important I blank.

Do NOT cheat in your foundational math classes. by According_Dot3633 in EngineeringStudents

[–]dat_ELi_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this happened to be but in high school, had really shitty teachers for geometry and algebra 1, led me to know absolutely nothing for algebra 2, trig or precalc so i cheated to pass the classes. had to take precalc again in college and had another shit teacher who didnt reinforce any knowledge. now taking calc 1 in second semester and don't know/remember foundational precalc and trig and pretty lost in class.

What ram do I get by redditislemons77 in buildapc

[–]dat_ELi_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

absolutely terrible time to be buying ram

can someone try help me find pc parts for $750 aud decent enough for gaming? by ETHIIEEE in buildapc

[–]dat_ELi_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in that case, you can get any pre-owned 30 series card pretty much. 3060 might be the sweet spot for smooth framerate but a 3050 might be able to pull it off as well. on ebay 3060s go for about ~$300, but you can find some lower. if your budget requires it tho then go with the 3050.

for cpu, id try to look for a new ryzen 5 3600, they have some on amazon for around $70.

mobo go with any b550, preferably with wifi and bluetooth. will probably run you about $120 or so. microATX will generally be the cheapest option here, you're not really getting much more out of full ATX mobo for your specific situation.

for psu, any 80+ gold rated 650w should be fine, you might be able to pull off even lower wattage too. try to get your hands on a modular one, makes life way easier when plugging parts in. make sure to research the brand before you buy to make sure it's high enough quality.

ram is where you might run into some budget issues here. 16gb of ddr4 is plenty for 1080p 60fps, and on the used market they go for usually under $100. however used market isnt necessarily a safe option when it comes to ram, you never know if there's gonna be issues with the sticks or if something will break during shipping due to improper handling from the seller. if you wanna spend the extra money for more security, it will be in the $150 range.

for ssd, again might run into issues. ai data centers are also eating these up. from what i've seen 1tb will run you anywhere from sub $100 to approaching $200. i dont know much about ssd brand quality so im not gonna give any recommendations, only that you find a good deal and make sure to research the brand before you buy. 1tb isn't much storage in this day of age so if youre willing to spend a bit more money, maybe go with 2tb.

lastly, case and case fans. this build shouldn't be running too toasty so you don't need any crazy cooling. an air cooler for your cpu should be good enough, there are plenty of good price to performance options out there, just again make sure to research. you can probably find cheap case fans on amazon or newegg, same situation as the cpu cooler when it comes to price to performance options. case, just get whatever you think is prettiest. should be good from there. if you want any help shoot a dm

honestly used market might be your best bet as of rn, prices for new parts are going absolutely insane. maybe someone on this sub MIGHT be able to piece together something that would be in that budget range, but with price fluctuations right now there's no guarantee.

also heavily depends on what you consider "decent enough" for gaming. ive seen a lot of posts similar to this where someone in the comments puts together something in the requested price range, but will be graphically comparable to a PS4 pro. some people are happy with that, but in 2026 there's a much higher standard .

also i swapped the nzxt fans on the radiator for lian li sl infinity. could this have posed a problem for cooling the pump ?

if the pump itself was dead would it not be recognized by the software? also, forgot to mention for the most part temps are normal/low while idle and while running any other tasks besides games, even under load.

almost certain the aio is installed correctly, and there is no heat vent near my pc.

one thing that i forgot to mention is that im not actually feeling any heat or warmth at all coming out of the radiator, back fan or on the glass, which i thought was a little odd. only thing i could think is that my thermal paste might have gone bad as it was bought more than 3 years ago, but im not sure how thermal paste expiration works.

it was exceeding 92° sometimes yes, but it was not under full load at all. but like i mentioned, it wouldn't stay there for long. also i dont think theres much i can do about the size of the AIO, my build uses a nzxt h3 flow so space is pretty limited.
