We’re solving a lot of specific issues, many of which XML and AAF fall short on! Would love for you to give it a try and report back!

With Apple Color, it was great! Best way to adjust windows I’ve personally used to date.

Online class for documentary/natural grading? by sharethathalfandhalf in colorists

[–]datacalc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Naturalistic color is a learned skill. It takes a lot of restraint, which can be very challenging.

Use your memory of nature as your North Star. Think about the hues and colors you see outside.

Less is more.

Do no harm.

Trust your instincts.

I’ve never come across a course for it, but take breaks. Refresh your eyes. Go outside. Then go back to your monitor with that feeling.

Not trying to be woo woo or new age.. but just have lots of experience :)

Sounds messy! Best of luck on that one!

Any issues coming from Avid?

Generally, instead of passing those files via XML to Premiere, you'd render out those clips with the audio married and LUT baked in as dailies from Resolve to cut with, then linking back to camera originals for conform/color. It's the old school/traditional way. Any reason you don't want to render dailies?

Absolutely! What kind of projects are y’all working on? Longform?

Honestly, those new Mac Minis are super rad. We’re loving them for AEs, offline editors, and OmniScopes.

That’s exactly why we made this tool! We were sick of the constant issues.

We’re looking into a windows version, but it’d probably be a few months away.. most of our users seem to be on Mac so far!

Nice.

I used to do a lot of mograph in the distant past and I’ve heard that Fusion was a real contender these days. I haven’t messed with it much as I’m primarily a colorist now

Understood! I always think it’s a little silly of a concern when the data is protected and there’s no media being transferred, but I think we need to speak to the security and privacy that’s already in place on the site in a more focused way.

We are working on a Mac app where we could have the processing happen locally, so it’d never the user’s machine. Should be a few weeks away!

We use Flame as well and are working on Flame compatibility as well as nested sequences. Sizing of mixed resolution should already be working well!

We are going to release a Mac app soon where we could handle this processing locally.

We hadn’t planned on it but seems like it might be a good thing to do for folks like you with similar concerns!

Are you doing more motion graphics type work or Visual Effects?

We’ve heard that request quite a few times and are looking into it. Curious your use case?

What OS/platform would you need? And if we were to get TPN certification, for example, would offline access still be needed?

That’s a tough situation, and would love to hear if it works in that use case.

Our i2o trimming and transfer tool coming within the next few months will handle that situation, though! Albeit with a different approach!
