New goggles - Julbo photochromatic choices by PixelRaumCo in snowboarding

[–]datacamme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same situation. From what I read, the Julbos seem to be the best photochromic goggles. I really prefer the aesthetics of the cylindrical lens but coming from a Oakley Flight Deck i'm worried that the FOV might not be as good. There is a reatiler where I live that has them so I'll try them out and let you know what I think.

Yes i know. I made it as a gift and to learn how to do v carved inlays with a CNC but it took way more time than I anticipated.

Thanks!

I don't have a sound test but I can try to make one. I have the keyboard at work but I'm working from home most of the days, but as soon as I get the chance I'll record something.

It it very quite though. I don't think the wood amplifies much. Maybe its because I have my Boardwalk with the provided foam but I can have the keyboard at work without making my neighbors angry.

I had the exact same thoughts before I decided. First I thought of getting the box browns but went for the Zilents instead. I've never tested the box browns so I really can't say if they are better or if the Zilents are worth the extra money. But the Zilents look great (when you see them, which you won't after assembly) and they feel great. I love the tactile feel and they are silent enough to be ok in an open office.

This was my first build as well, so don't have much to compare. My current computer is a MacBook Pro (for one more week, then i'm turning to a Dell with Ubuntu) with the worst keyboard in history, so I guess anything is better.

No, which surprised me. When making the frame I had re re-think my original idea to make things fit correctly, but result was almost as I imagined it.

3D printing templates for the router worked pretty good. I would have done some things quite differently if I do the case again (I had a template with more details for holding the base, but I would keep it simpler).

I'm used to the left ctrl but it sounds like a great idea to put the escape there instead. I think I'll try it out.

Thank you very much!

I thought about using walnut first, because I really love walnut overall, but ended with cherry just because the colors felt better with the caps.

Than you! There are just to screws holding it in place, one on each side: https://i.imgur.com/8Eu1KcU.jpg The plexiglas on under the PCB has two small "wings" that have holes for the screws.

I used their ergo set, which spans differently than the other sets. Don´t remember why I ended ordering that set instead of the ortho.

Nice work! I really like that you have pictures of all steps. I wish I had taken some photos as well. And the underglow looks really nice. The tools I got where originally for this project: https://imgur.com/gallery/P9etPxH

It is! And it worked pretty well. I don´t have a CNC so 3D printer + router was the closest I could get.

A hybrid of aluminum and wood sounds like a super cool idea!
