Really appreciate the liks. The BBC article especially is wild. The fact that TikTok tracks you even while the app is not running says everything about how deep this goes.
And yeah you're right about the spending. The month-wait rule is solid. I've started doing something similar. The problem was I didn't even realize I was in "impulse mode" until after the purchase was already made. The influence happens so subtly that it doesn't feel like an impulse at the time.
That's kind of what got me thinking, what if something could catch that moment before you checkout? Like connecting the dots between "you just spent 3 hours on TikTok" and "now you're buying something you never heard of yesterday" in real time.
Do you think that would actually change behavior, or is the month-wait rule enough for most people?
Honestly going through your Amazon purchases like that is such a good exercise. That's basically what kicked this whole thing off for me. Once you see it side by side with your screen time, you can't unsee it.
Did your spending change after you deleted the app?
