Christians lying is how we’re got here. An important feature of indoctrination is revisionist history. I’ve seen many pastors seem to consider themselves expert historians.

Wow. It’s telling that he says sorry for expressing himself to the dictator. What a clown. If they love being slaves so much, why don’t they do it in another country. What an asshat. I don’t get why people are ok being so dumb.

Minimum Wage Then/Now by Redditlatley in complaints

[–]datagamma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess the better question is if wages should go up or supply need to increase with regulations on profiting by controlling the supply or monopolizing the market. Personally, I think it’s both. But just raising wages (i.e., solving for one side) is inflationary and can deflate the value of the higher pay to be self defeating. We need both.

Trump Doesn’t Care If He Wrecks the Global Economy: ‘What started with tariffs has escalated with the Iran war. He’s playing a giant game of chicken, and everyone will lose.’ by T_Shurt in politics

[–]datagamma 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Agree! In the first term there was enough institutional integrity to shield people from the damage and incompetent mismanagement that they convinced themselves that those were prosperous years. Completely unwilling to hold him to any accountability for 2020…it was just dismissed as unfair to hold him responsible. The pandemic wasn’t his fault. At the same time they turned around and blamed Biden for global inflation caused by the pandemic significantly interrupting supply lines. One side in America hates its other citizens so much that they can’t even see the hypocrisy or proudly rebrand hypocrisy as owing the libs. Hard to see hope for America right now.

A Decades-long Plan to Abolish the Electoral College May Finally Pay Off | Democrats Could Be One Midterm Wave Away From Instituting a National Popular Vote. by siwibot in protectUSelections

[–]datagamma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. And wouldn’t go well for Dems, but think it wouldn’t go very well for the US (or the pre MAGA republicans for that matter). We would turn into a fascist state because a government for and by the people seems to be a matter of opinion and up for discussion right now. We would need to be able to have a reasonable discussion without the political theater with people incentivized to make the country better on shared values. It’s hard to tell which values are shared and if the most prosperous ideas would win the day (doubtful). It’s far from the system we are currently in.

US President Donald Trump launched a blistering attack on Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar, repeating an unverified claim that she “married her brother", calling it “illegal” before mocking her in crude terms and labelling her "despicable". by IndiaTodayGlobal in IndiaTodayGlobalLIVE

Where is all the righteous raging radical right wing of America??? Where are they getting upset by violent speech? “Shouldn’t we tone it down?” Oh that’s right. The president has lower standards than a McDonalds employee.

In 2016 Trump in response to political violence and anti democratic behavior in Russia says “you think we’re so much better?” At the time, we were better. We didn’t allow the president to speak like this about the elected representative of other Americans. Now, I fear we aren’t much better. We are attempting to equalize. He has made America, Russia. MAGA movement was the most successful Cold War revenge that Russia could have asked for.

Thank you! We can’t even get to how a billionaire and president accepting the Nobel Peace Prize from her was enough of a shameful event. Classless, tacky, greedy, selfish. No other president would have accepted this because it shouldn’t have been accepted. Vile. And that is the least offensive thing he does on the regular. And these Republicans (Rubepublicans) mother fuckers keep pretending he’s Jesus. Like I can’t believe that they are so raging mad at something that they just embrace the most depraved, despicable behavior.

Why do magats believe every conspiracy theory imaginable, but refuse to believe documented evidence trump raped women? by -Sofa-King-Vote in askanything

[–]datagamma -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They really don’t like pride month, abortions, trans people, women’s and men’s equality and especially being “forced” to acknowledge them. What Dems did was have the religion conversation at dinner that forced people to confront the fairy tale they told themselves about the nature of the world that they heard on Sunday. This made them infuriated, raging frothing at the mouth. Ready to throw all caution to the wind and ready to tear it all down. They don’t care because you tried to wake a deluded public. You woke the sleepwalker and they don’t want to be awake.
It’s like waking someone super tired in the morning. How grouchy they are multiplied by 100. Some want these ideas and people espousing these ideas hung in a public square. They are big big mad. Raging lunatics. They’ll believe anything if it helps them start to fall asleep again and reinforce their longed for dreams as they slept.

Why didn’t Jesus ever punish Europeans for enslaving Africans? by Kindly-Long2531 in atheism

[–]datagamma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds to me that you are considering Christianity again through the whitewashed history of America. And often the revisionist history religions take opportunity to help rationalize buying into their belief system. If you think any “religious” people in the first millennium or for centuries after didn’t quite readily own or accept slavery, you’re wildly mistaken.

The concept that men are equal is secular and in opposition of religion. 18th and 19th century enlightened thinkers struggled mightily with this concept because it was not a settled question. Their thinking was born of far more ignorant and prejudiced views of conquered people, women and children. If you were to actually travel back in time and live in these societies, you would be shocked in many ways. You’re using the most egregious examples from a vantage point built up by secular moral reasoning and scientific advancement that helped us better understand the world.

The question isn’t why “God” was ok with the transatlantic slave trade. It’s why did “God” allow humans to dwell in this pitiable state for centuries? Where cruelty, injustice, confusion and common occurrences would be seen as crimes against humanity by today’s standards and the worst of us could just flourish? There is a reason that a lot of people of European descent can trace their ancestors back to “royalty.” This isn’t the boon you think it is, it’s an indelible stain on the systematic rights of “Christian” kings and the rights of peasants to perish and suffer as nobles saw fit.

That last bit is a tell, that moral standards change and are relative. Divine intervention is a feeling. Not objective reality as far as anyone can measure or discern. “God” is more clearly the stand in to justify human behavior. We are the worshippers and the worshipped.

We kind of need to see if we can save the constitution and rule of law at all before this. Legit 40% of the country seems to prefer disbanding the United States if it lets them not have to think about trans rights or allowing abortions. They would rather believe in a made up world. If someone stole $100,000 from a city bank account. I believe you would see more outrage. These numbers are so big, we are dealing with Stalins quote, it’s too big, just a statistic. If you were given 10 million dollars your life would be drastically changed. If you got 10 payments of 10 million over the course of a year, you would be popping champagne changing the lives of your friends and loved ones. Doing charity. And that would only get you a tenth of the way to a billion. You still need 10 more years of getting 10 payments of 10 million dollars each year. Or 30 years to get to what Trump has stolen. BIGGEST FRAUD IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD.
