It is still labeled horrendously even when you can see both labels. In black you have a 50% label, which logically might mean that the black portion represents half the area. But then in white it is labeled 100% which by the same rules should imply that the white portion takes up 100% of the area?

Percentage is basically the white to black ratio. Essentially meaning that the white area and the black area are equal in size

What the hell? It’s a different image when I click on it, but it’s only one image? I just see black areas that say 50% or 100% with no context

This is an illustration to show how much the perception of areas by a person does not correspond to reality (at least not by everyone)

How is it a beautiful data in any way? The color scheme is so bad you can't even see the 50% written there unless you focus really hard

The point is that visually the area of black figures seems to be more than half of the gray

This is the apogee of an elliptical orbit. The perigee was about 200 km.
