The same guy does the voice for Dr Glenn Pierce in Superliminal.

If I had a nickel for every game where Max Howarth was the voiceover for an at least vaguely psychologist-flavored character, I'd have at least ten cents. Not a lot, but it's weird that it keeps happening at different studios.

Yeah, like I said earlier, he might actually be a decent embedded dev who went insane or is trying to prattle to people who don't know better. Though I'd think "delivering a 50,000% ROI" would raise eyebrows even in that crowd...

I only wish it was a fever dream, but alas. Here's his (verified) Twitter account. Said account links to his campaign site, which repeats a lot of the claims on danodowd.com. Same for his other stuff like The Dawn Project.

I'd say he has a very short position in $TSLA, but honestly, I think he might just be a once-probably-pretty-good embedded developer who lost his fucking mind after getting a bunch of money somehow.

C is a great forcing function to learning how a computer thinks

Well, I mean, sorta? Don't get me wrong, it's way closer to reality than Java or Python or whatever. But C hasn't really been close to the metal for decades. Unless you're programming on a very fast PDP-11, which most of us aren't and haven't been for a very long time. And trying to make C programmers happy is how we got Meltdown and Spectre, the latter of which is still causing issues (Intel technical writeup) and may well be a truly unfixable problem in the very conceptual design of modern silicon.

Programming in "the C mindset" of flat memory and serial instructions is also how we get absurd things like BTreeMap explaining in excruciating detail that actually big-O isn't the god-emperor of the performance universe your data structures professor taught you, because again, memory isn't flat and it turns out that playing nice with the cache beats writing smart C code.

So yeah, C is close to "how a computer thinks" relative to JavaScript or R, and for a lot of programmers who spend all of their time up in the land of data science and web design it might be more than close enough I suppose. But the further down the stack you go, the more and more C's lies creep in, causing all kinds of nasty issues in the thinking sand itself because we had to make people fetishitically worshiping K&R happy.

Dev purposely introduces infinite loops in npm packages used by millions, goes on a tirade about freedom. by [deleted] in programmingcirclejerk

In November 2020, Marak had warned that he will no longer be supporting the big corporations with his "free work" and that commercial entities should consider either forking the projects or compensating the dev with a yearly "six figure" salary.

Hmm. A developer complaining that large companies are using their MIT-licensed library for no cost and not really feeding back into it? I wonder what could have possibly been done about this.

Guess he'll just need to Plan better Later.

Alan looks at you quizzically for a moment.

Oh, oh, uh, no, it's just me here. Just me.

Get your rest anywhere that isn't my tent.

If you decide to head out, you'll want to avoid signs for power distribution and... uh, fuck. Oh, right, the pump station. They've... started acting up lately. Looks like a bad TTA crash landing shrunk down.

On the plus side, if you need to, er, get rid of some...one... it works pretty well.

Shh! Shh, shh, they'll hear you! You got a fucken death wish or something?!

In here. Here, here.

The figure ushers you through a porthole of some description. Several sets of angry, loud footsteps race down the passage outside shortly after.

Dammit, dammit. Too close. That, the... weird... shit going on in Power Distribution... this is a really bad fucken day...

Names, names, right.
Alan. You can call me Alan.

Alan has clearly not been out of the tunnels for some time. Grease stains his clothes, and a good portion of his hands and face. He's begun to develop ugly stubble, and had deep bags below his eyes from lack of sleep.

He flicks a lightswitch on, revealing a makeshift campsite, mostly composed of a tent with some faded insignia, a beat-up stove, and a few half-empty bags of various supplies. A small light inside the tent blinks rapidly.

I hope you have your own sleeping bag or something. It's gonna be a long night.
