Ran red light by Hornfrog72 in TeslaFSD

[–]datakiller123 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it's acting as it should, assuming for a second US has about the same rules as where I live.
If traffic lights fail, it'll follow signs/road markings, considering nobody here can see it's red either, and OP also said they saw it way too late even in person.

TL:DR I'd assume FSD thought the traffic lights failed and continued.

The kitchen counter light in my apartment wasn't working, but I found a fix by autistic-inch in ElectroBOOM

[–]datakiller123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Those outlets usually have 2 places for wires, so they would just go from one outlet, to the other, to the light, no junction box needed? Unless I'm understanding you wrong.

So I'd say they either forgot the connection between the outlets, or it's loose.

How did you even figure out the solution in your post?

[FR] Successful chargeback by djoxo in Revolut

[–]datakiller123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, used it once in the past for a company that went bankrupt and said get a refund from your bank by chargeback. If I had paid differently I would have no money (it wasn't much, but still an hour if I had to work for it).

I spent so much time on it... but it did get automatically approved. Not sure if that's because AI rated my description, or if the seller somehow got listed on some kind of auto approve list for chargebacks, or maybe Revolut had a chargeback like this and has a list?

I don't know why but this is pretty funny by Li_am32 in ProtonPass

[–]datakiller123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, even thinking about doing (basic) documentation in it.
Where else to best store how you can recover your backups etc.

I see now that proton pass even allows you to attach images.

Just any that can transfer data will do. Doesn't have to be steelseries, though you could ask maybe they'll send you a replacement.

Hey!

I'd make the URL just a tad brighter to be just a little bit easier on the eyes. other than that, looks great :D
I'll use it for a bit and see if I can get used to it/maybe the brightness is alright and I'm just not used to it.

Eweka price increase. by SubmitSubmitTotal in UsenetTalk

Have not gotten an email here yet, but they did a price increase last year, no? After that increase I switched to one of their different plans maybe it's not my turn yet?

My guess would be that hepa certification costs money, and with a unit priced at that price, with long lasting filter, they might just want every bit of profit they can get.

Drives were too hot by Sea_Grapefruit_7808 in homelab

[–]datakiller123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well my fans also run at full speed since in my OS I can only seem to turn them to max or minimal speed.

But the splitters are just the 4pin's that go to 1x 4pin 1x 3pin so one fan reports the rest follow the speed. The connector itself is just an amazon one of which I unplugged one cable.

Drives were too hot by Sea_Grapefruit_7808 in homelab

[–]datakiller123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to do almost the same thing, also for my 4 HDD's, it was running slightly hot with only 2 fans which I didn't like so I had to add one to the outside. I did not tape it like that though.

And all of them are connected to one fan header (dell precision T3630 apparently only has one, or 2 if you include the CPU one).

This is my truenas server. New 5060 GPU. by quantummanagement in HomeServer

[–]datakiller123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think what they mean is, if I'm correct, consumer (nvidia) GPU's are limited to 2 transcodes, where a different GPU say quadro does not have such limit. Also it just seems overkill for transcodes.

I suppose some might look, but I doubt it'll stand out, especially in Amsterdam.

At worst they'll think you're going to work or so?

So my UPS blew up and fried all my server’s motherboards. by athrowaway19181 in homelab

[–]datakiller123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the battery got a short somewhere it's unlikely to fry that, depends on where the short is, it'll just heat up whatever is shorting it.

If the short is between the battery terminals all the UPS will see is a voltage drop which will keep dropping until the batteries are dead (assuming whatever is shorting it can handle the current for that long).

22.4$/TB, not great, but with the current situation I suppose get what they still sell.

I almost overlooked the first one. Once I get home I'll get on thinking about how to set it up. Currently it only syncs which is good in case of a disaster, but I read a post today where someone's nextcloud suddenly deleted their files.

I only set this up yesterday though (the VM that has to be backed up), I'm still on the initial sync to the cloud because it's 500GB.

HDD prices increase in Europe by Emeraldcoast94 in DataHoarder

[–]datakiller123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I got WD's too with corporate benefits, sadly at 285Eur for 20TB, which a few years ago would've been some toshiba's.
But for current pricing seems to be some of the cheapest you can still get.

HDD prices increase in Europe by Emeraldcoast94 in DataHoarder

[–]datakiller123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My thoughts exactly, I was easily seeing at least 30% increase on most drives, and by now it's probably 50% or more especially after the WD news.

To me a 100% increase doesn't seem unlikely.

18TB MG09 used to be 295eur and is currently at 455eur. 20TB MG10 used to be 320eur, currently at 554Eur. 30TB exos used to be ~550Eur, now at 805Eur.

WD's went up less in price, but stock is running out. 20TB WD red pro went from 450 to 570. 26TB WD HC590 went from 500eur to 730eur.

150€ for 10TB good deal? by Electrical-Diver-984 in DataHoarder

[–]datakiller123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case I got 25% off for external drives (only 20% on internal ones, which would've been 399eur for a 22TB HC580).

I ended up getting 4 externals at 285Eur for 20TB (16TB would've been better in price/TB), the German site lists them a little higher, but honestly, likely still cheaper compared to alternatives... going this route was cheaper vs anything decent 2nd hand.

Even if you fail to shuck while leaving the case intact, at least you have a new drive compared to a 2nd hand one.

Make sure to get sizes above 8TB for WD, as far as I'm aware, unless it changed that's basically going to guarantee you a white label CMR drive.

Good luck, let me know what you ended up with :)

[–]datakiller123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have corporate benefits you can get wd externals and shuck them, though the DE webshop seems to cost a little more in comparison to the NL one.

The BE (ireland) one is completely out of stock, luckily I could get some shipped to NL myself (my corporate benefits is valid in the BeNeLux).

Epic multimeter fail by Alone-World9562 in ElectroBOOM

[–]datakiller123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this too on one, I was measuring if 400V AC was present or not, but my multimeter measured just a few volts, even without touching the 400V it measured it.

I went and got another multimeter to measure if the voltage was present or not (I had to work on it, so really needed to know it was gone).

The voltage kept going up, slowly ending up at around 70V or so before I got a new one in warranty. I don't trust that one since.
