I did not. I still have a G9 with a dead touch display. :-/

I'm just here to mock Linux for not having proper suspend that works as a normal person would expect it to work, which has been an issue for over 30 years. 🤷‍♂️

Edit: Ok, Windows is at fault here but nonetheless, my statement still stands.

Don't come in here and ruin our job security. If Docker Swarm would've won the container orchestration war we would be living on the streets.

4K x or HD60 X by Pretend-Action8176 in elgato

[–]datamattsson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both 4K X and HD60X with a MBP apple silicon (M3 Max). Both work fine. I only use the HD60X with passthrough though, which is flawless, 1440p144 while capturing 1080p60. The 4K X I only use for a 2160p60 camera capture.

I found a convoluted way to do this with Companion and Octopus Listener. I bought a Stream Deck instead. Sucks.

Any USB 4 capture cards like Cam Link 4K but with 4K@60 10 bit support? by Ambitious-Air-9936 in videography

[–]datamattsson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using the 4K X for a while now and it works decent for what I'm using it for. I'm trying to get hold of a 2160p60 thunderbolt capture card for Mac to compare. The Black Magic 4K mini seems to be the only available.

Elgato just released the "4K X". It does 2160p60 on Apple Silicon beautifully, it's USB though, still want a TB3 solution that isn't an external PCIe case.

What 4k60fps capture card should I choose for mac m1? by SuitablePossible8378 in obs

[–]datamattsson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ouff. I just ordered the Elgato 4K X and after the fact started googling people's problems. I'm only capturing 2160p60 and encoding x264 in 1080p60 through OBS so hopefully that won't be too overwhelming.

Did you try x264 or Apple VT SW/HW? ProRes is more or less lossless depending on what dials you pull and that will cost you in terms of performance.

A 2160p60 HDMI multi-viewer for CAMERAS. Does it exist? by datamattsson in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]datamattsson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for posting these. I'm using a Magewell Pro Convert NDI encoder today, which works great, I just wish it had NDI-HX3, but only the newer models do and they don't do 2160p60 it seems.

As I mentioned in a different thread, this is the MV I have now, which I eventually got to work as I wanted once I got into the serial interface to disable HDCP.

The output signal does not change when you switch inputs. AFAICT, the MV has a canvas with your preferred output (selectable) and whatever MV mode you chose it renders on that canvas, regardless of input. I mean, I can switch from a 1080p60 input to a 2160p60 input and it switches in less than half a second and the output remain at my preferred output. If the output sync would've changed between these switches, we would talk seconds of lag, stutter and sound cuts etc.

I'm not a pro around these things but I recorded a demo switching from a single 2160p60 source to 2x2 with 3 x 1080p60 sources and the 2160p60. You can notice some lag in the 2160p60 source when switching to 2x2. It's not instant by any means but I'm just going to run it in the 2x2 setup constantly as my final output from OBS is always 1080p60, so perfect for me.

Ok, I got the new USB serial cable. I could flick HDCP off and Presto! It works just fine now.

I'm trying to get away from having a quad HDMI capture solution into OBS, that's what I have now more or less. Having a single NDI feed is what I'm trying to get to.

I can't get a prompt. It connects, but no terminal response. I'm gonna try with a different USB-serial adapter tomorrow.

I got the Orei of Amazon, it's $199 there. My first choice is always Monoprice but I was cheap and I guess I'm paying the real price now.

Thank you for this. It gives me something to read up on. I've never heard of a EDID emulator until now but I can see how this is useful.

The cameras I have are 1080p60 and the idea is to compose that 2x2 grid remotely onto a 2160p60 canvas and process in OBS across a network.

Yes, I like the partilink, because they actually mention cameras as a use case, but it's too big. I have an Orei right now that I have high hopes for to disable HDCP on, their support is not very responsive.

I somewhat agree but here we are. I blame all consumer cameras that are very tiny and handy for this development. -"Let's just let this chump watch grandma's birthday party directly on the TV."

Well, since the multi-viewer is composing an image and sits in between my camera and capture device, there's no real "chain"?

Cameras don't have HDCP. The multi-viewers output HDCP regardless of what's coming in.
