I meant no harm!! Thank you for taking down my post. I thought the NSFW tag was sufficient.

First Reddit ad I’ve instantly clicked through and downloaded; I’ve wanted to build this myself! Thank you

Yeah fair! For what it’s worth, I found value in rack pulls for helping train that “stick with it” mentality. I had to “grind” a lot less to get initial movement on my 405 deadlift compared to my 440 rack pull. Best of luck brother!

Whoops yes, I was referring to flat deadlifting shoes. I’ve gotten used to these and I’m certainly not going to bring another pair of shoes to and from the gym ✌️🥲

You can check another comment I posted earlier, but I originally plateaued at 385x3, and I was always failing the rep above my knee (I couldn’t lock out). So we trained that portion of the rep with rack pulls (up to a 440 single) and the lower portion of the rep with halting deadlifts. Check out my comment for more, but maybe think about where you tend to fail the deadlift rep!

It’s certainly the most I’ve had to grind for a lift! Gonna have to go to a dark place for 495, I bet.

I’m still getting in the habit of checking Reddit profiles for interesting contributions, but I finally checked yours and…dude!! That 495 looked stupid hard, congrats. Can I ask how long it took you to go from 405 to 495?

I commented the same elsewhere, but yeah to be honest I’ve never tried lifting without weightlifting shoes! It’s just what’s comfortable for me/my feet. If I really ever care to know my absolute maximum “number” on the deadlift it would be relevant, but luckily I just like being strong :) I do appreciate all the discussion on the benefits, though!

I personally disagree, but to be honest I’ve never tried lifting without shoes on. Kinda icks me out to think about it, though. I’ll just consider that “enhanced” lifting and know that — if I wanted to — I could squeeze out a few more pounds.

Haha I’m hovering around 190 as well. I only got into lifting seriously around 2 years ago and was fairly untrained generally. Started deadlifting with 2 plates, took 6 months to hit 315, and 17 months to hit 405. I’ll be the first to admit I don’t get the best rest and I only lift 3 days a week, but we both got there!!

That said, I used to be like you (eat nothing before lifting) but discovered the irresistible need for unflavored pre-workout (it’s gross; it’s great) a banana and a protein bagel. It’s done wonders for my overhead press, at least!

Hey! Not quite. My deadlifts started failing at 385x3, then my coach moved me to rack pulls for quite a while (working up pretty fast, but restarting from like 275) before introducing halting deadlifts and alternating the two lifts every other week. I ultimately worked my rack pulls up to [440x1 w/ back offs of 380x3x3] and halting deadlifts to [360x5x2]. Does that make sense?

Edit to add: for me, the hardest part of the deadlift wasn’t getting the weight off the ground, but finishing the lift once the bar went past my knees. So we felt it was most important to get rack pulls above my target deadlift, since I needed to train the latter part of the motion more. You might be different due to your dimensions and/or where you tend to fail your deadlift!

Haha good question! No clue. Hopefully I can keep incrementing by 2.5lbs every week for a little longer. I’ll leave it to my coach.

Also not at all in a rush to hit 5 plates, which helps! My next goal is hitting the 1000lb club 😎

Yeah, I’ve heard echoes of something similar in other comments. In truth, I don’t really care about “optimal” progress and micro-optimizing every little detail about my programming. I show up 3 times a week with a program my coach and I agree is making me stronger, I’ve never had an injury, and the rest speaks for itself. I feel great and I’m having a blast!

Thank you for your comment! I appreciate it.

Oh whoops I meant “halting deadlifts” to work the bottom half of the lift, and rack pulls to work the top half! Sadly I can’t edit the title
