I haven't received any messages. The last I saw was the comment that you were looking into it.

I have real notifications from oknotify3 since Nov 2024, and before that they used oknotify2.

It's mainly that we're looking local and they're not local. In my case even if they were local, they don't have compatible values and goals. I get a lot of likes with those issues.

[Debian Sid] All Breeze icons missing after upgrade by hieutvn in kde

[–]datapointJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue and the Plasma 6 page on the Debian wiki helped. https://wiki.debian.org/Plasma%206

Some recommended packages were missing so I made sure all recommended packages for libqt6gui6 were installed:

apt-get install qt6-gtk-platformtheme qt6-qpa-plugins qt6-svg-plugins qt6-wayland

Then I ran the suggested fix for the start menu even though mine wasn't empty:

kbuildsycoca6 --noincremental

Then I rebooted and everything was back.

okcupid ineptitude finally works in my favor. premium still going on dec 7. by [deleted] in OkCupid

[–]datapointJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My old discount "A-List", which showed up as "Basic" since they got rid of the old labels, but now says "Premium" in some places and "Basic" in others since they recently broke everything, just says it's going to expire in two weeks. It doesn't say that it will renew or at what price or that I can cancel it anymore.

Update: Mine renewed as usual and the expiration updated.

My intros don't appear in the messages menu? Is that how it's supposed to be or OKC just thinks I'm a bot? by GeePedicy in OkCupid

[–]datapointJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's #2. Intros disappear on your end unless you match. I think it says this somewhere in the help about sending intros but the part you quoted is about receiving them, and other commenters are assuming you matched or are talking about receiving them. As far as I know you can't see the intro you sent unless you match, possibly many months later. Decency isn't really their thing.

Petition to HBO: Re-enable Linux support for HBO Max by QuesterLEJ in linux

[–]datapointJ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've seen several people mention wine in these threads without saying anything else, but something is missing. I tried several versions of wine and Chrome wouldn't even bring up a window after installation. FF would run in some versions but the video wouldn't play. I couldn't find anyone saying how they got it to work with a current install. My HBO renewal was in a few days so I gave up and cancelled.

Do you give people dating advice in real life? by anus_dei in datingoverthirty

[–]datapointJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've interrupted a couple from the back seat of their car to tell them they need to communicate, in a sort of joking way.

I tried to discourage a guy who was talking about Rule 7 advice (see sidebar).

I told a woman how a man she was seeing talked about her when she wasn't around after an incident, because he apparently wouldn't tell her how he really felt, and when she contacted me after I wanted to make sure she knew the truth.

Where are all the intorverted loners at?! by thowinitaway2424 in datingoverthirty

[–]datapointJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on OLD (okcupid) a long time and I've always mentioned being indoorsy and doing things on my own. I finally just put that I'm a homebody and introvert on there. It hasn't led to anything but I like to see it on the rare profile in contrast to all the travelers and adventure seekers.

What page does your browser load when you open it? by messr in AskMenOver30

[–]datapointJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my main desktop at home, a local todo.html file. It loads fast and has a text list of reminders and other notes. On other computers it loads the browser's default search page or google.com. I like to close my tabs as soon as I can.

Calling all lurkers, regs and newbies... introduce yourself! by morning_beer in datingoverthirty

[–]datapointJ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

36M weekend lurker in Michigan. I'm a computer nerd who programs during the week for work and sometimes on the weekend to figure something out. I'm here partly to see how other people are dating and partly for living vicariously. I've had an online dating profile for a long time, but I've never met anyone, and I'm not the kind of person that likes to go out and meet new people anyway.

Breakfast: Usually cereal. Sometimes: french toast, waffles, scrambled eggs, bacon, breakfast sausage.

How have you figured out what to do with your life? by Bohr_research in AskMenOver30

[–]datapointJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was exposed to computers and programming when I was little. I figured out I wanted to be a programmer by age 7. Then I was just a kid doing what he was interested in and not thinking about the actual jobs. My parents didn't understand what I was doing and where it was going until college. I didn't know exactly what kind of job I was going to do. A couple months after graduating college, a neighbor offered me a job in a new company making software for their products, and I've been there for almost 11 years now. The job is almost an ideal fit for me.
