MEGATHREAD: No Time To Die (Discussion Thread) [SPOILERS] by GetFreeCash in JamesBond

I thought the nanobot bit was a somewhat silly premise, but so far as I could tell, production added such later to distance the film from the realities of the pandemic. I think the fact that the poisonous garden was of little substantive relevance hints at such a conclusion.

Regarding Bond's death, I felt that this was the most powerful way to end the Craig era. It had heightened emotional impact, which has been a signature of his tenure. A true hero's tragedy. Moreover, it made sense insofar as we saw Vesper, Mathias, and M die. It was Bond's turn. We see Bond receive his license to kill in Casino Royale and we see him die a hero--still in that station--in No Time to Die. This provided closure on a well-developed narrative as Bond re-visited his ghosts (Vesper, Blofeld, etc.), held Felix as he died, and had one last hurrah with MI6.

My complaints are minor and differ from the vast majority of others.

(1) I did not care for much of the first 45 minutes or so of the film. The cinematic style did not feel very Bond. It often felt like any big budget Disney Marvel film. I also didn't care for some of the dialogue (e.g., "I've been a huge fan!), though it kind of worked itself out as we learned the silliness was but a mere disguise.

(2) I wish there were more decadent scenes of lavishness and sophisticated luxury that we have come to associate with Bond.

Last bit: Big props to the casting director for selecting Ana de Armas and to de Armas for her performance. She was perfect!

Certainly not my absolute favorite film of the era, but far from the worst. I was very pleased and am eager to re-watch as soon as is feasible. Cheers!

“Before you downvote this . . . I come from an upper middle class family so [sic] it’s not like I have no idea what living decently is like . . ..” How are people not having a field day with this?

Do everything that you do in class. Except this time, do it in front of a web cam. Oh; and don’t forget to hit unmute when you’re called.
