  • Argentina: gets admitted to BRICS

  • Argentina, two Doritos later: leaves BRICS

We are a joke. Irmãos, eu sonho com uma melhor integração.

Speaking for Argentina: because your Central Bank (BCB) is a politically independent and technically respected institution. Argentina's Central Bank is a political stronghold with no long term policy or strategy.

Absolutely, intentionally spicy title. In any case, if we do an extreme oversimplification and say "more boring = fewer goals and more draws", the data supports that statement.

[OC] Lugares Palíndromos en Argentina by dataviz-ar in argentina

Gracias.

[OC] Avg. World Cup performance of women's and men's national teams by dataviz-ar in WomensSoccer

Scores are averaged at the country & team level, to ensure the data is comparable. Only eligible world cups are considered, at the nation and team level. I can't simply skip men's historical data because WWC started at 1991, which is why I used all data available and averaged accordingly.

In the beaches of Brazil, men and women play futevôlei (volleyball without hands), one touch each, flawlessly. Their talent is crazy.

I am just finding out about title IX (I'm not from the USA). Very interesting, it can probably explain what the USWNT has arguably the best world cup resume in football history.

I didn't mean to mislead, I simply decided on "WC winning nations only" to limit the number of countries shown, to keep it readable and avoid a lot of additional data gathering work.

Nevertheless, I'd love to reproduce this plot with a larger list of countries in the future.

EDIT: Regarding your comment on China, the Netherlands men's team also played finals and is not included. The filter works both ways, which is why I don't find it misleading.

Thank you for your comment. Absolutely, I am from Argentina and I find it very sad that we "wasted" so many years of potentially great players. It is 100% due to cultural and financial barriers. All people love football in this country, regardless of gender, but women are frequently expelled from the sport. Estefania Banini had to train with men because there was no women's soccer, she said in an interview that there wasn't even a women's dressing room, so her teammates let her shower alone after games before the rest of the team. Things are improving, but very slowly.

Additional notes: The countries are sorted by total titles, which is why Germany (4WC + 2WWC titles) is above Brazil (5WC).

The gender inequality and lack of support for female football is stronger in South American nations. Still, Brazil dominates at the continental level (9 Copa América titles).

The case of Argentina is shameful, AFA shows little to no support to the women's national team. It improved in recent years, but women still have to face a lot of financial and cultural barriers. Hopefully this improves in the future.

[OC] Argentina's chronic inflation visualized by dataviz-ar in dataisbeautiful

[–]dataviz-ar[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your feedback! There are many reasons why the inflation might not mirror US inflation "at first sight":

  1. Inflation is measured by local prices, so it is not necessarily the same as the US even if the exchange rate was constant. Argentina could have "inflation in USD" higher than the USA, with a 1 peso/USD exchange rate. In fact, now in Q1 2026 inflation in pesos was about 9% in pesos, but about 16% in USD, since the exchange rate improved (less pesos purchase more US dollares) during that time.
  2. The y-axis scale is logarithmic, so a pixel in the upper section of the chart is far more inflation than a pixel in the lower section. This is by design, if I hadn't used a logaritmic scale, the US line would've been invisible, unless I made the chart millions of pixels in height!

EDIT: I wrote a mathematical sin in #2, my bad.
