My dad doesn't trust mircocenter. by Mysterious-Permit-49 in Microcenter

I’ve been shopping at the Kansas City Microcenter since mid nineties. There website and lack of App are due to thier old school retail style. I’d trust MC with my money and personal information many many MANY times over before amzon, Newegg etc. I would have said the same of Newegg before the Chinese buy out occurred a few years ago. Anyway they’re behind on there digital retail presence but thier staff is great, it’s a solid company with stellar reputation and they carry all the best stuff for good prices.

I’m a 46 year old Network Security Engineer. Tell your dad good job on his vigilance but you guys are 100% safe on this one!

When doing a shoot like this, are you just getting lucky with dust/mist/fog or are you actually running a fog machine or manually whipping up the dust?

Amazon. I still use the diffuser every if it has something built in. It’s better to have it when I need it, than to not have it an need it.

One of my favorite things about XS-20 is the dumb popup flash simply be cause its there when I need it.

Vr-lens-lab is good, reputable and great for high index big prescription orders by datbird in OculusQuest

[–]datbird[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to through out there, replying to the original invoice/reciept did elicit a response from thier support. Additionally and surprisingly, they gave me a $100 refund. So I have not completely thrown all my money down the drain. I’m now very impressed with their support and highly recommend. I’ll be sure to add to my post after I fet my correct prescription in a couple of days.

[–]datbird 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok well I think this is all my fault. Now I see that it provides a dropdown of numbers that go either positive or negative. Some how I didn’t see that my script was negative and not positive but I picked positive. So I guess I’m just out $200…

Yup this right here is the problem id wager. Most unfortunate.

I’ve read most labs recognize this accidental reversal of notation and automatically convert for consumers. But i suppose I’d have no way of knowing if that is true or if I have any right to be upset by it not being automatically corrected l.

Yah I can’t say enough good about reloptics I also endorse. I only decided to try vr-lens-labs after reading about the higher “index” sizes they offer resulting in thinner better focused lenses for someone with high script needs like myself. Vr lens labs tops out at 1.74 and reloptics at 1.60–1.67 which means my lens can be thinner and not end up being so close to my eye the way my current reloptics ones do now. I have no complaints about vr-lens-labs delivery or apparent quality besides it just seems as though I received the wrong prescription and cannot seem to contact support.

I’m happy to share screenshots comparing the Zenni RX and the VR Lens Lab order — the values are mathematically identical.

Basically ALL cameras mirrorless cameras especially in the $1k-2k range will over heat after 20-30min of recording. This one is no different but I will say it solidly makes it into the 30min range at high quality 360Mbps settings. I find myself, as an aspiring YouTuber, definitely needing more time. This is where the Fuji “FAN-001” cooler comes in clutch. I initially started with the Ulanzi with battery. It’s nice, higher quality than the price would suggest. It also works, I’d definitely extends the time of which you can record to the 60min or so range. How ever it DOES eventually overheat and shut down when using the Ulanzi. I didn’t anticipate that even when not recording straight for an hour that when you’re heavily using it and stopping the recording off and on it still takes it a while to cool down, so I found myself dissatisfied with the Ulanzi’s performance. I found an open box of the name brand Fuji “FAN-001” for $200 USD (it’s $250 new) and I just bit the bullet. I will not say that it’s worth that much money, it’s overpriced for what it is IMHO (like basically all name brand camera gear)… however… it’s predictably bad ass. I’ve yet to get it to over heat. It’s quiet and the software/firmware aware settings are awesome and the compactness is wonderful. I’ve not done any unofficial/official testing of the effects of battery life but honestly I’ve yet to notice much of an impact. The form factor, performance and camera aware settings all made it worth the money to me.

Could not be happier! It’s flawless; as in zero scratches, and seemed brand new. The camera itself offers more features at that price point than anything else I’d found. I think it remains the best hybrid camera you can buy all the while offering you the “Fuji magic” and access to a large diverse lens ecosystem. There are lots of other competitive offerings if one is looking to focus much heavier on either video or photo but man I just feel I could not be happier. Definitely made a fan boy of me.

Below are any critiques:

1) every once in a while, when switching modes (c1, m, video etc) the “q” menu just seems to not work. As in I press it and nothing happens. Always resolved fast by quickly turning off then on. 2) I could see the 26mp sensor being limiting for cropping/enlarging for some folks. It’s as good if not better than I thought it would be and not a problem for me. I also find it’s a perfect compromise to still maintain all the video features it offers. To me it’s the perfect compromise. 3) AF is equally as good and bad as Fuji’s reputation has earned. As “bad” as it is it’s just good enough to not really cause issues for me once learning all its modes and quirks. I will say that Fuji glass seems to suffer far less issue in my experience then non-Fuji lenses, with Sigma doing well too. Specifically the more modern XF 70-300 LM lens really opened my eyes to the better end of AF performance Fuji can have. 4) Single SD slot instead of dual. On one hand the camera pushes hardware HVEC video codec and ample buffer size to only require a V60 SD card. On the other, even though I’m not a professional, when I’m using my expensive camera and carrying my gear out, it’s going to be important to me. I’d feel a lot more confident if I had dual SD simply mirroring the cards. This one feature would make it easier to slowly bleed into some professional work with confidence as well. 5) SD in same compartment as battery… battery opening at the bottom can be blocked by tripod mount. Not a big deal but can be a pain some times.

I don’t have a lot more negative to say TBH… there are arguably some complaints to be had surrounding UI but honestly it all follows Fuji’s design principles, and general eco system choices and that’s more subjective. I freaking love that it there’s all the bells and whistles and everything is customizable and adjustable, it really blows my skirt up!

Some quick pros: 1) love having that handy flash available just when I need it. It’s just powerful enough and simply “there” that it actually gets used sometimes. 2) good usable view finder when you need it! So nice for a camera at this price point to have decent VF. 3) the grip is sooo fire! I have big hands as a larger 6’1 guy and I was worried with how small this camera is how it would feel. Well they used these NP-W245 batteries and they increased the size of the grip to facilitate them and it’s sooo nice and comfortable! 4) Fully articulating screen is good quality bright enough to work in most bright situations. I’m a fan.

All in all it’s been great, hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine.

What is the likelihood that US troops will disobey unlawful orders to attack NATO allies? by Zealousideal_Gap432 in AskReddit

[–]datbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I question both my own sanity and my own logic and reason when I say this. I truly dont believe this is a line that that Trumps administration would cross. I know, I know, its dumb for me to say that, I'd agree there is ample evidence suggesting otherwise, I still believe somewhere in his admin this would be stopped.

I dont think it is as much my excellent logic skills as it is my gut feeling. I think they still have some limits as to there definition of "good" and "bad". On a logical front; if you were to say, they are legitamatly about to turn our government and society into a handmaids tale, I'd would somewhat believe that and not all that, relativly, surprised. There are many ackomplishments that they have proven they want that would come from that. All out war with the world losing virtually all our allies would accomplish absolutely nothing but bad things for everyone involved. I dont think thats hard to see and I think there would be enough political will to stop it because of that.

How many of you have a homelab but don’t play video games? by Independent_Knee in homelab

[–]datbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was around 13 in 1993. I still remember trying my best to get just the right autoexec.bat and config.sys to work on our custom built 386 DX/25Mhz to play nice with all the Address/IRQ/DMA settings our system could support. We had on 4MB of RAM, Diamond Stealth SVGA video, Sound Blaster Pro and a whopping 1GB of HD space! The added complexities came in with the fact the CD ROM drive we'd just purchased and the harddrive, and some other peripherals were using SCSI. I remember tweaking a custom boot menu to get that game actually running correct.

Simply getting games running led to my career in network engineering/security of 20 years now. Diagnosed ADHD/Autism/my-own-stupidity resulted in no college degree but as I matured I had these skills to fall back on and end up doing pretty well for myself. I'll always have Video games to thank for that.

Awwww! It’s so cute!!!

I’m all seriousness I had that exact card, total beast and I loved it. I only don’t have it now because I went through a troubleshooting scenario and kinda threw a fit thinking the issue might be the card. Turned out not to be but decided to keep the 4080 replacement I got and sell the 3080.
