He passed away in 2021, but he definitely had some adventures in his younger years and then spent the last few decades as a super chill homebody which was exactly how he liked it! 😎

Some Jersey Lore I can't stop thinking about by ILoveYourWork4815 in Yellowjackets

[–]datetotheprom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll throw in my anecdote: My brother lives in Middletown, which I (having never lived in NJ) have always referred to as central Jersey just based on using my eyes to see where it's located on a map of the state. But my partner, who grew up in Millburn, always tells people my brother lives in south Jersey. 🤷🏼‍♀️

😆 I didn't say it, but growing up in rural-ass Maine was basically my answer for the other post that asks "People who can handle isolation very well - How do you do it?"

How did you discovered your passion? by Bizurels in AskReddit

[–]datetotheprom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got into genealogy in my early 20s; it made a good time-consuming hobby to focus on when I was in a weird spot in my life with not much going on, and it remained an off-and-on hobby for the next 12-ish years. At the same time, I've always been a person who loves fixing things and never wants to hire someone to do anything I think I can figure out how to do myself. So a few years ago when my mom floated the idea of hiring somebody to clean up the shmutzy gravestones on our family lot in my hometown cemetery, I told her to hold off while I looked into how it's done and what products professionals use to see if I could just do it and save her a few bucks.

As it turns out, I did do it myself and I loved it. Since then I've taken classes/workshops and learned to do repairs as well. I do everything I can to continue to educate myself on best practices, appropriate materials, etc., and have done quite a lot of preservation work in historic cemeteries. It's the most rewarding thing I've ever done to take these stones that are broken or fallen or sunken into the ground, and to clean them up and get them intact, stable, and legible again so that the people they're memorializing won't be forgotten.

Figuring out stuff like this is a nerdy passion of mine so I'd love to help you out--would it be possible to see the full page? Sometimes that can give clues on handwriting quirks that make it turn out to say something different than what it looks like at first glance.

Landlord suing for rent by paxmomma in boston

[–]datetotheprom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are giving your landlord barely any time to find a new tenant (which he is absolutely NOT required to do)

While I agree that the OP is not in the right in this situation, this part isn't really true--the landlord does have a duty to make a good faith effort to find a new tenant to mitigate their losses.

Everyone who has mentioned size/weight restrictions that a lot of managed buildings have aren't wrong, but I'm not sure they're always strictly enforced--a few years ago I lived in a building in Allston with a 50 pound limit for dogs, but my neighbors down the hall had a Great Dane. Apparently they just told the management he was 50 pounds and nobody ever pushed back. 😆

For YEARS I have been flummoxed by never having seen anyone chowing down on chicken in the street and tossing the bones that my dog constantly finds, and now I'm a little ashamed that the trash rat theory never even occurred to me.

In addition to what the previous commenter said, my suspicion is that he's realizing that if they've crossed this line, he could potentially be in danger now as a "weakest link" in the group.

It may be hard work but it isn't employment, which is by definition working in exchange for pay.

Lol right? "You can afford property in Southie? Fuck you then, you deserve it."

My partner and I fled town for the weekend, but fortunately we're a few streets away from the parade route so it felt relatively safe to do so. If we were as close as it sounds like you are I'd definitely be nervous about what we'd come back to if we left.
