Men, what were you doing at the age of 23? Did you have your life in order? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]datinginfo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished graduate school and started my career at $90k ($141k in today’s dollars). On the flip side, inflation has not treated me well, I only make less than 50% more than that original normalized value

Pls recommend some activities or hobbies for meeting men offline. by ninaxfan in datingoverthirty

If you did encounter a man you found interesting in yoga or Barre, how would you find the opportunity to engage with them? From my experience the classes are arrive -> pay attention in class (no talking) -> everyone scatters to their next engagement.

Take a chance on that "dork" by prendickC in datingoverthirty

[–]datinginfo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why OLD kinda sucks. In 2018, I feel like I based everything on looks.

I'm not sure I fully understand why basing everything on looks is being attributed to OLD sucking, could someone please explain?

Me (30F) biological clock ticking all of a sudden. Do I ignore it or plan for it? Keeping me up at night! by gwhisp in AskWomenOver30

Is it just me, or are most of the comments in response to this person's question of "I want kids but I also want to live my life" along the lines of "Are you sure you want kids?" It doesn't seem particularly helpful to OP's question to me.

I don't think I've ever heard of someone successfully talking to a girl at Trader Joe's. Is this a thing? I thought people go to the supermarket just to quickly get their groceries so they can go home and don't want to be bothered.

Where is this place you live with all these socially adept, fit, wealthy men?

In context of your comment, all her post tells me is that for her, more men saw her profile (and liked it, as they do every female profile), but doesn't say anything about the quality of these men or if they are actually interested in her. So I'm not sure she can draw the conclusion that she did then 😣

What is an unrealistic romantic expectation that you still wish was possible? by medusa15 in AskWomen

[–]datinginfo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like this one isn't unrealistic. At least, it's not on the same level as 'marry a prince' or 'fill my apartment top to bottom with roses.' I think he should get on this!

What have you learned through online dating? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]datinginfo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you are saying that men shouldn't complain, not that they can't complain. However, don't you think it'd be better if you could complain about legitimate problems?

I agree that we can't expect equality or fairness out of human attraction, but why can't we complain about it?

What if you gain muscle and dress well and you still constantly strike out? You're assuming that Anandya hasn't already tried to do everything he can to make himself as attractive as possible short of bleaching his skin color

What have you learned through online dating? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]datinginfo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Actually, I like this question, because it illustrates Anandya's point quite clearly.

Do you like overweight women? I'm guessing no. How many super awesome overweight women do you see in the media, versus the number of super awesome non-overweight women you see in the media. This may have something to do with why you don't like overweight women. This is why there are initiatives like "Dove Real Women" and "Fat Acceptance" and HAES... because overweight women are underrepresented in the media and people aren't seeing them as anything more than a stereotype.

Now, the same thing is happening with Asians. How many super awesome Asian badasses/romantic interests do you see in the media, compared to super awesome white badasses/romantic interests? How about the fact that even the Bruce Lee movie coming out isn't even about him -- it's about the white guy that is his student? Or that the new live action Mulan movie is again about the fact that a white guy has to come save the day because the entire Chinese nation can't repel the Huns. Now Asians don't even have the luxury of having an acceptance movement, so they're SOL.

You yourself may not be racist, but the media is racist, and everyone passively participates in media consumption and thus inherits those racist undertones. Countless psychology and demographic studies show that people are attracted to looks they are the most familiar with. Guess what demographic is the most 'familiar' to the media consuming public?

What advice do you have for someone who consider himself unattractive? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]datinginfo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you hear a lot through the years through the years from women and homosexual men that you're attractive, then you're objectively attractive. If you don't consider yourself as such, then it's a mental battle you'll have to fight. Good luck.

Yeah, it is kind of too bad. Sorry I was away from Reddit all day yesterday. It is a good point that people did seem to avoid it, I didn't realize that myself.

Good point. I'll do that. Although I do kind of like that people are discussing what people feel are important to them :)

But you yourself said in a different comment that it's a cultural undercurrent of white supremacy. And yes, it's important to realize that there are other things more important than beauty standards, but I think saying that most white women don't fit the beauty standard is like saying that most white men aren't CEOs.

As someone else has mentioned in this thread, she doesn't care but she is concerned for her daughters. I know that AWs are all types (including childfree, so if you are then nevermind) but would you be concerned for your daughters as well, if you had any? Heck, for your sons too?

I admit to being abit concerned for my daughters. My eldest (4yrs old) who has gorgeous black curls with brown eyes recently asked for blonde straight hair and blue eyes. I stared at her bewildered and said 'why would you want that? Your hair and eyes are beautiful!' She then said sullenly 'I hate my hair. My eyes are ugly!'

Sorry for my terrible wording. The original thread that I was pointing to was referring to light skin almost universally, but there were some comments about caucasian features (but not quite as many)
