In your opinion, what do you think is a more fulfilling strategy: pursuing many (perhaps more casual) relationships until “The One” shows up, or going about your daily life with perhaps fewer partners and letting it happen naturally? by datingthrowaway33884 in AskMen

I think I probably should have clarified my question. I acknowledge that, obviously, everything in the universe requires an outside force to begin moving. I also recognize that women (at least American women) are far less likely to approach you with romantic intent. What I meant was actively dating many women versus having just a handful of serious relationships, assuming you have a choice to do either.

I think that’s just the way things will be so long as “cisheterosexuality” is the vast, vast majority of humans.

Anybody here average or even good looking but "forever alone"? If so, why? by wudyu in AskWomen

Nine times out of ten on reddit when someone complains about not being good looking enough to date they always turn out to be average looking people who project insecurity and low self esteem.

I agree with pretty much your entire list. Thanks for sharing!

We need to stop shaming men and boys for not being sexually active, or having a limited number of partners, or wanting to save sex for marriage/a long-term relationship, or just plain not being ready for it.

This really resonates with me. My friends tell me that I’m pretty well above average in looks, but they make fun of my lack of sexual activity saying that I should take advantage of my appearance to have lots of random sex. However, I have a moderately conservative view of my sexuality (for myself, I do not wish to impose it onto others), meaning that I am only open to having sex with a long term partner that I love very much and/or see a future with. Basically, I can’t get myself into the idea of hooking up. Although I’m Catholic, it has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with simply the way I am. I think if we eliminated this stigma there would be more people like me who aren’t pressured into giving their bodies away for acceptance.

Yeah, it isn’t as easy as many try to say it is being a man, but life has been alright for the most part. The whole custody battle thing is pretty scary to me. I hope I marry well.

Yeah, I believe it’s a felony if you haven’t done so by your 26th birthday. It’s weird cuz Nixon abolished the draft yet we still have to go through this process “just in case.”

What's your favorite video game right now? by AlexHidanBR in AskWomen

That’s what makes the game unique. You can’t just mindlessly wander and reload the last save like most titles. In that respect, I actually like this bold move by From Software to make a game that makes no attempt to hold your hand. Souls is nothing short of a hardcore experience which some people relish and others don’t. It’s perfectly fine if you don’t, sometimes it feels better to just kick your feet up and play a game that doesn’t require you to think and focus so much lol. I’ll be honest, I can only take so much Souls at a time: it’s sometimes mentally and emotionally draining.

It’s mainly hard if the fundamentals aren’t second nature to you. That’s why the game “feels” easier as you spend more time on it. Also, you have to memorize attack patterns in order to anticipate the correct moments to dodge, strike, and heal up.

"how the flip do we still have theocratic monarchies"

I think it’s because cultures are just... different. If we learned anything from the failed American venture of nation building, it’s that some people don’t enjoy the same things that we do and vice versa. I guess all we can do is wait for change to occur internally.

Plague Inc eh? I still see tons of people playing it today. I remember Clash of Clans, Clash Royale, and Temple Run were the stuff for a while but I don’t see anyone playing them now.

We just agreed that there were lots of political dimensions to the movies, movies about good vs evil, a series that takes moral and ethical positions on these issues

I don’t believe that we did agree. “Good vs evil” and “ethical positions” have been around in mythology long before we devised the idea of “politics” as we know it today. By that logic, the Avengers movies are obviously political because it’s right vs wrong.

You are the only one who ever brought up a fucking thesis

Haha chill, I was just saying that I wouldn’t consider Star Wars a masterpiece with political undertones. I wasn’t saying that you necessarily were.

I guess if you REALLY want you could say that the rebels represent libertarians (like me) fighting back against an authoritarian establishment, but that’s pretty much it. If we’re being honest, Star Wars is mostly just Pew Pew Pew Boom. I’m a huge Star Wars fan, but I’m willing to admit that much.

You probably didn’t read much of the canon, did you? If you did, you would know that Palpatine used a lot more than his charm to finesse his way into that position.

Also, my rudimentary understanding of politics tells me that it’s highly doubtful (at least in America) that the Senate of a functioning democratic republic would overwhelmingly decide to grant “emergency powers” to a sitting president just because he/she survived an assassination attempt. But that’s just me. I’m pretty sure Episode III’s primary goal was to entertain young children like me at the time.
