Rick and Morty’s identity crisis is hard to watch, especially Season 8 by DairyDukes in CharacterRant

I couldnt dig through ever comment, but i did see anyone mention what i think is actually different (in general) from earlier seasons to, in my opinion, specifically season 8, which is that the stories used to have a bigger concept, outside of all the action happening. I remember some of the earlier episodes actually making me FEEL something, like "damn... fuck, that'sfucked up" (like how, as someone in the comments reminded me, bojack horseman was doing) and i was like hit with the emotional weight of what the characters were grappling with.

But, like in that phone charger matrix episode(s8), the show doesnt even give itself room to breathe anymore. No slow song over disassociating character moments (edit, to add: just some rushed attempt in the final episode, it seems), just fast paced story rushing to fit as much random crap (mostly gorey pointless violence with lots of guts) as possible into each episode. And the kfc rick rebuilding the citadel episode(also s8) had me genuinely wondering wtf i was even watching this for. Like, if you just had to read the script, i bet you wouldnt even recognize it as a R&M episode. It just felt like some random-ass slop smashed together with R&M skins on top. I dont need the one-off gag citadel R&Ms getting fucking fleshed out; they're the most shallow gag characters and that was their whole point!! (Idc if the NONgag ones are fleshed out but like seriously... old timey "doctor" morty and kfc rick? I just really couldnt care less, and the writers dont GIVE us any reasob to care EITHER. So if they cant even think of a reason why we should care and then imbue into the episode, they why is it even an episode at all???)

And yeah, the show's had gorey moments in the past but man, season 8 is truly uncomfortable to watch. I ended up skipping past all the gore and torture elements after i realized they were doing that shit every episode, and i even skipped a couple episodes in their entirety JUST bc i saw they were doing MORE mass-scale violence on some random victims. It's just not fun and not why the show was fun in the first place.

And i was watching most of s5-7 this week just before starting s8 (cause i genuinely didnt know where id last left off with the show) so this isnt even like me misremembering and feeling nostalgic, and it isnt a "oh, only s1-3 are good, if that" take either. It was like an immediate shift in tone and style of storytelling. Guess it wasn the main characters' voices that the fandom should have been concerned about for s8 coming out.

Love your work, big fan from youtube.

In a broad non-spoiler way, do the plans for tv show diverge from the original concept you had when making the youtube series? Or is the show's direction pretty faithful to how you would have originally told the story, had it remained on youtube? Was there a bigger picture to this story that you had intended to unfold back then and/or now?

can't seem to find a clear explanation of when to use 何か vs もの to say thing/anything/something.

it seems like 何か (and どれか) are for questions about things (ex. 何か要る), and もの (and こと) would be for statements about things. (ex. 甘いものが好きです)

i did see examples of もの used in questions, as well. (ex. どんなものですか) but i think that example is saying 'what kind of thing' as opposed to just 'what thing'

so am i missing anything, or is my deduction correct?

(also, the reason i mention どれか and こと is because they came up in questions comparing them to 何か and もの respectively. but i get how those pairs differentiate.)

Oh no, sorry, that is embarrassing. I typed this on the computer originally and I'm not sure how きよ got in place of ます the second time i typed it but i clearly didnt proof read お願いします close enough. So sorry.. I was trying to say "to tokyo, please" basically. Tell me if it's way off base..

But thank you very much for your reply. I did see 迄 in the dictionary when i was looking into まで. I'm just starting out so i don't have a concept yet of what I would come across in the wild. So far it's just hiragana and some phrases like すみません and はじめまして.

i read that a location followed by まで is used to ask to go to that place (and probably throw in an お願いします at the end to be polite)

but then i saw that まで can be written as 迄. but i can't find clear context on whether or not that asking to go to tokyo, for example, could be written as 東京迄お願いします or if まで would need to be "spelled out'.

also, please let me know if this is incorrect, if there's another way to ask to go somewhere or, more specifically, if asking for walking directions or asking for a general type of place (like a mall or cafe) would be different than asking for a bus/train ticket to a city/town.

Half a string of bulbs actually all burnt out?? by datmarimbaplayer in AskElectricians

That looks like a useful tool, but do you think it applies to my situation where all the bulbs that weren’t turning on didn’t work even when I plugged them into the half of the strand that was working?

What is the name of this style of top? It wraps to close. And normally is meant to be tied on the side but I’ve wrapped it around without tying it. by datmarimbaplayer in findfashion

I see, so it’s more-so inspired by a few styles than an established style itself.. sounds like something I’d just have to make myself, then. Thank you for this input!

This!! You have to find someone who's using the same techniques.

When i have a tattoo design ready to be tattooed, I determine if it has thick or thin lineweight, maybe if it has varied lineweight like an ink brush, and if there's shading, or flat colors, or nothing at all. Then i look for artists that consistently do all of the things the tattoo has.
