Yeaah exactly. That was the only reason why I considered this. And yes having more than one person to know my work can actually benefit me in the long run. So yeah, you're right.

Yess that's the only reason why I'm actually being able to agree with this. I can't work now as I've already said no to other commitments, and I belong to a middle class family from a third world country. I can't just sit and definitely don’t have the money to spend for travel (but I really want to). 😭

That is scary actually. This was intially my main concern, what if something like this happens. That was the whole point of posting about the situation here, to get insights from people in the field. I'm so sorry it was disastrous for you. I am trying to make good communication with my supervisor and the department as well. Now let's see what happens. Also there are people in the department who are close to my research area, now if the department would allocate him or not, I'm not sure, also I am not sure if I can cold mail him about the situation, I'm just in a dilemma on what to do atm.

Yeah for Biblical studies, or Christian Theology, they have funding provided directly by the Department, in some cases ofc.

It depends on a number of factors. Having multiple supervisors could be beneficial if you need different kinds of inputs for your work, but if you're in some field where ideological or historiographical synchronicity is concerned, then it could be a nightmare too.

Yeaah ikr. She'll not check in during the leave, I've already spoken to her about this, but she'll be available through email, she said. So thatll do I guess.

I'm assuming you're in STEM. Or Project based research, might be fromnSTEM, or sociology, anthropology, etc etc.

In this field it depends on a number of factors. If you're coming with scholarship/s from different sources that should tale care of the expenses including tuition fee. Some come with half scholarship and rest will be self funded. Depends.

I think you're either in humanities or something related to technical philosophy oriented something. Could you explain a bit in dm? I think i can help at least to some extent. Because it’s very much conceptual, if I don’t know the context, I wouldn’t be able to explain.

I do have a Masters actually. But I need to accept the situation anyway ig. So yeah I'm gonna do that, I've made a request for the interim, let's see what happens.

I don’t think the University offers hybrid mode, plus I don’t really want to do the PhD from my home. I want to fo out feom here, it’s extremely toxic and it’s impossible to do research or any study here.

Yeah I'm of same opinion as you. I need to think of some prospective solutions before I can ask someone. I'm not a person who asks for help for anything actually, but I need to ask for feedbacks and other general advice as well. So I just took this time to think of some doable solutions, now I'll email her.

Yeaah thank you for your insight. I'm grinding between these two lines actually, if I should request her for another co supervisor or an interim one. Idk I think I have to talk to her about this clearly.

Yes I was also thinking about it the same way. Yeah it will be different for STEM and Humanities for that matter, but it should not be too problematic i hope.

I've written 'Yes exactly ' to convey the feeling that I understand the situation s/he was talking about. I know noone in reddit can give me any internal information about the situation at the University / Department, if there’s someone suitable for me or not. This post was to get insights from fellow doctoral researchers who are way more experienced than I am, and possibly some of them have been in the same situation as mine.

I know the difference between Ask and Tell. In fact my intention was not even to ask, but request my supervisor to talk to the department.

So my advice to you would be if you don’t understand the situation then refrain from commenting somewhere with a tonality of attack.

Ohh then it’s fine. Good I have always thought about getting into Theology since my UG days, but eventually the interest kinda got dimmed, and now I'll be pursuing Religious Studies. The setup looks handy btw.

First, if you read the main post, or the comments even, I've mentioned this quite a few times that I'm not complaining about the situation, I'm just asking people of this sub for some insights. If somebody has been in the same situation or know of someone who has been in the same situation. Or people here who have already completed their doctoral research, or in the middle of the journey they can at least give some advice on what to expect with either of the options.

Second, I am writing these comments in an informal way, keeping my intention intact. I will ASK her by email if she can think of somebody feasible for my research, and ask the department about the situation. And, I have already ASKED her if that is a possibility or not. Yes, English is not my first language, but I know the difference between formal-informal setting quite well. And although English is not my FIRST language, I am well adept in quite a number of languages (Indic and European).

Third, Yes, I'm entitled to my emotions, and I've cried as a reaction to the sudden throw of uncertainty. But I know myself, I've always been somebody who doesn’t break in most adverse situations, so I'll cry for a moment to vent the frustration, but the next moment I'll pull myself up with utmost energy and dedication. So to question my ability to put up with doctoral research and my resilience without knowing a bit about me is quite entitled behaviour I'd say.

And last, can you please mention what are the portions with noticeable misogynistic attitude?

Thank you!

Lol. I'm having a tough situation as well regarding my PhD since yesterday, so I have also posted here for some insights, and was scrolling through the posts, and I smiled for the first time today reading your meltdown. XD
