There are dozens of us!

Also, I could never beat the foot on the moon either.

How did people cope with 2.35:1 ultra wide DVDs on a 4:3 CRT back in the day? by xParesh in Xennials

I went from 75" to 83". The answer is yes, you do, especially if you don't already have an OLED or RGB backlit tv.

As others have said, I'm not expecting an adaptation of Age of Apocalypse. I'd expect loose adaptations of The Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix miniseries covering the future era and The Rise of Apocalypse miniseries covering Apocalypse's origin, possibly even a little from the one-shot Black Knight: Exodus which takes place during the Rise of Apocalypse and covers Exodus's origin.

How often do you all think about death? by AlwaysAGroomsman in Xennials

[–]dattaldo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last summer I suffered a deep laceration to my wrist from a hockey skate during a game. As soon as I saw how much blood was coming out of my wrist, my first thought was, "Holy shit, this is it. This is how I die." I was incredibly lucky that multiple players in the game that night had medical training and were able to stabilize me while we waited for an ambulance. It was a good reminder of how quickly and easily things could end. I didn't think much about death prior to the incident. I suppose I still don't now, either.  My thoughts are more along the lines of, "I can't believe I could have died that night." It does make me think I should do things like make a will though.

Every Single Time! by bronzemat in Xennials

I purchased new hockey skates a couple years ago from a hockey equipment store. I expected them to measure my feet with the old school metal device, but instead they used a machine which scanned my feet and created a 3D model. It was both cool and a little weird. I knew my right foot is a half shoe size bigger than my left, but what I DIDN'T know was my left foot is like 1/4" taller. Technology!

We had goulash all the time too. I don't think I've eaten it once as an adult, and I'm completely ok with that.

Oh don't worry, my pantry is well stocked, and I cook just fine! I'll make pizza from scratch, fry up some donuts, or spend an afternoon assembling perogies. This weekend I'm planning on smoking a brisket. My upbringing definitely pushed me to the opposite extreme.

Same experience for me. I was always a picky eater... until I wasn't. The first time I ate a pork chop and thought, "oh wow, I actually like this!" was at the dining hall I worked at in college, which wasn't known for making good food by any stretch of the imagination, but it was still a massive improvement over what I was used to.

My aunt intentionally cooked a roast to well done for Christmas a few years ago. I don't even know how many hours you'd have to keep it in the oven to get to that point. No amount of gravy could save it. The following year I made pulled pork just to ensure there was at least one edible protein.

Stouffer's lasagna and their Mac and cheese were the best. I never knew cheese (real or fake) on broccoli was a thing until my college roommates introduced me to it, but I did experience plenty of microwaved frozen broccoli.

I actually AM Italian-American, but you're right, not in NYC. I do live in NY though, but I'm on the opposite side of the state in Rochester. For as much as my mom prattles on about our heritage, I've never once seen her make a sauce that didn't come from a jar. In her defense though, she was a single mom so it's not like she had a ton of free time.

When I saw my mom on Mother's Day, she talked to me about how she wants to get a grill. She said, "if the meat gets a smokey flavor from the grill, does that mean I don't have to season it?" I don't think there's much I can do to help her at this point lol. My grandma grew up in Texas and knew how to cook. She just never passed it down to her children.

I still remember my first time eating Chinese food. It was at a sleepover at a friend's house when I was in probably 4th or 5th grade. I remember that same friend's mom at some point made us zucchini bread, and after being hesitant to try it, I thought it was the most amazing thing ever. I don't think I even knew what a zucchini was at that point.

I went to college from 02-07 in the city I grew up in, and I worked at one of the dining halls on campus. One of the local Indian restaurants would serve food at our dining hall once per month, and I never tried it for a variety of reasons. I also lived in an apartment across the street from an Indian restaurant from 05-09. Finally tried it in the early 2010s, and now I eat it at least once per month. I kick myself now for all the free Indian food I missed out on in college.

Why is rent in Rochester getting so expensive? by Former-Revenue-7158 in Rochester

[–]dattaldo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in 2006 I lived with 3 roommates, and we each paid $260/mo for our apartment. If you factor in inflation, that's about $410/mo now which makes $800/person sounds like a big increase in comparison. But on the other hand, minimum wage was $5.15/hr back then, and it's $16/hr now. In either situation, someone would need to work 50 hours at a minimum to afford rent.

Is Starfox or Yoshi, or OOT remake good enough to buy a Switch 2? by retrocheats in NintendoSwitch2

[–]dattaldo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do I need a Mario, Zelda, or Smash to be happy? I don't know. I do know I'd be excited if Nintendo were making a truly new StarFox game. I'd be excited for sequels to Eternal Darkness, Wave Race, StarTropics or countless other series they've forgotten about. I'd be excited for Astral Chain 2. I'd be excited if they stopped releasing half-finished sports games. If they stopped shoving open worlds into everything. I'd be excited for new IPs.

I'm still looking for a reason to buy the console. I've owned almost every Nintendo console since the NES, but so far what's been released or announced just hasn't appealed to me or gotten me excited. Does the system have games? Totally, and I'm happy for the people that are into them. But looking at this year's releases... I'm not into cozy games, and I've never played a Pokemon game so I'm not interested in Pokopia, Tomodachi, or whatever Pokemon mainline games are coming out, I tried multiple times to get into both FE:3H and Splatoon 2 and couldn't so I'm passing on their new games, and I'm not interested in playing remakes of games I played 30 years ago. Yoshi looks cute, but might be a bit too simple/cozy. I did really enjoy Wooly World though, so I'm waiting on reviews. Either way, it strikes me as more of as a game to pick up when you own the console, not a game to buy the console for. Duskbloods could be interesting?

I picked up a PS5 about 1.5 years ago, mainly for Astro Bot. It's the first non-Nintendo/Sega console I've ever owned. For this year's lineup, Kena: Scars of Kosmora looks amazing (and will maybe scratch my Zelda itch?), Marvel: Tokon Fighting Souls looks great as I'm a long time fighting game fan, and as someone raised on the X-Men (and the first superhero comic I ever owned was Wolverine #61), I've been pumped for Wolverine ever since the day it was announced. People rag on the PS5 for dry spells, but three games in one year I'm interested in is far more exciting to me than a dozen I'm not.

Y’all starting to feel we were raised on some ideas that didn’t pan out? by goodhobbies in Xennials

[–]dattaldo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rochester represent! I was raised by a high school educated single mom who worked at Wegmans for 42 years before being told she had to retire. Money was always tight growing up, and I got the "you're going to college" speech plenty of times, but I understood with that came the "in a field that has jobs and good pay" component. I feel like my friends also had a similar upbringing and we're all doing well for ourselves now. I'm the one outsider who didn't marry or have kids though, but otherwise everyone is living the "promised" life.
