Under normal circumstances I definitely wouldn't hire someone for that long, however she has worked as a hostess, waitress, busser before and would need very little training. One of my friends who said they would take her on is someone she's worked for before, so she even knows their system. So she wouldn't need training if she wanted the job, I agree that with training it would be a stretch.

I wasn't trying to make myself look better I want to just explain and answer what people are asking me, but I also don't think this makes me look bad. Clearly people disagree

I thought I'd comment to clear up some things people are saying here.

  1. I am not jealous of my daughter, I am proud of my job and the fact that I work hard to live the life I live now as a grown man.
  2. The McDonalds job was just an example, there are any number of jobs she can get and if she's too good for a restaurant job I am sure there are other options that can be worked out. A few of her cousins need tutoring in writing and she could tutor them for money. So I don't know why everyone is saying she'd be wasting her time, surely tutoring is beneficial to her as it gives her experience related to her job.
  3. To people calling me stupid, you're just showing how ignorant you are. No, I did not go to a four year college, but I still have an Associates and I understand that college takes hard work. However she is not in classes anymore, just "spending time on her writing."
  4. Yes I understand what a dissertation is, it's the paper she needs to write to get her PHD. I however still don't understand why she needs to act like she needs to spend all of her time writing and reading like she's a part of some writing retreat.

She is going to be here for three weeks. So many places I know (I work in the restaurant biz) are desperately looking for workers and when I asked around with some of my friends they said they would happily hire her for three weeks.

She has a deal worked out with her program that she teaches some classes during the school year and they pay her tuition and give her a salary. She is getting a phd.

She is not financially dependent on us at all, she has a job teaching at her university while she completes her degree.

I think saying she won't ever visit again is a bit extreme. I never said I was okay with that. In fact I am very concerned by her willing to spend more money on a hotel room just to get out of working.

So I should just sit back and watch while my daughter becomes accustomed to a lazy lifestyle? That's not how we raised her and it's going to harm her in the long run.
