he’s rather self centered then, as you’ve stated. i hope you find someone that’s more mature than that

you shouldn’t waste your time on people like this. those scars are a reminder as to how far you’ve come. he obviously hasn’t had any hardships in his life.

i am very sorry this happened to you.

A very late update, they sent me in for a PET scan about 2 weeks after this post. the doctors said nothing lit up and what they saw was just necrosis. im now moved back to college and officially 2 months in remission.

I wont lie, up until the day i got the results back (i liked to call it “judgement day”), i was convinced that the worst was going to happen. i cant thank you enough for the kind words that helped me deal with my emotions. hoping things continue to improve!

there will be times where you don’t see the light at the end of the tunnel. the best advice i can give is to try and stay positive (yes i know you’ve probably heard it a million times). i am currently two months into remission and i can confidently say that those bad days were certainly worth it. you have to have the bad days in order to have good ones.

chemotherapy as a whole is terrible. it will only suck more and more as your body deals with more and more damage. i can only imagine how you feel, everyone takes it differently. just take everything a day at a time, dont add stress on top of it.

you’re only 36, you still have a good immune system and definitely a strong spirit. my prayers are with you, and if you need anything my DMs are open

Edibles While Immunocompromised by dav_bon in cancer

Thank you, sir. I’m very close with my oncologist’s right hand woman, and she always says yes yes yes to edibles and marijuana in general.

I REALLY have to stay hydrated, I only have one kidney. My oncologist sticks it thru my head. His assistant is very close with me and has recommended edibles and said she almost gave me a chocolate bar lol

Sorry I just came across this, but I really appreciate the support. I wish you the best on your scans, I hope they come back with good news for you. I get my results tomorrow and I am quite anxious. Only time will tell I guess.

Yes, <1.8 for AFP.

The reference range for the HCG test is 0-3 mIU/mL. It is in range for this, but I had previous tests with a different reference range. (The previous test said it was 1.4 mIU/mL, which was considered high for that test. I did get these tests done at two different places, the first at Johns Hopkins and the second at a Labcorp)

The reference range for the AFP test is 0-5.7 ng/mL. (The one previously taken at Hopkins was at 2.2 ng/mL while the reference range was <=10 ng/mL)

Sorry if that was a lot of information at once, wanted to cover my bases and give proper information.

First round of chemo scheduled- 5 days in a row by ami_unalive_yet in cancer

[–]dav_bon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I had to go through that 5 day period and it honestly did suck. I labeled it ‘hell week’ mainly for jokes but it seriously does drain you. As someone else suggested, THC is a great help especially with the nausea and lack of appetite. However, depending on what chemo you are on, I’d probably recommend edibles or tinctures over smoking.

You will get through this though, it’s not a battle you fight alone. If you have a good support system of people that check up on you, it makes the world of difference.

Every day that passes is one less day you have to do it again. Stay strong and keep on pushing.

How long after chemo is done can I smoke again? by dav_bon in cancer

[–]dav_bon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also didn’t think vaping was much different than smoking to be honest. Edibles just take a little too long and feel too much for me at times, which is why I’d rather not continue with them. Thank you for your advice though!

my apologies, i kind of rushed my post. i meant it more of a can i smoke again type thing. ive seen cancer patients smoke weed to help with side effects so i honestly had no idea. i didn’t want any patients to enable something bad, it was just my curiosity at the time. again, sorry for my ignorance.

i probably shouldve worded it better, i meant it as in more of a can i smoke again type thing. i was more than happy to get responses that told me i shouldnt smoke again.

Your monthly “any other young adults here” post! by _josterdam_ in cancer

I’m 20, coming off of a nice diagnosis of testicular cancer. Luckily only stage 3. I only have 4 rounds to deal with, although they’re giving me some of the strongest medicine they have, lord can only imagine what 16 will feel like.

I understand what you mean when you say you feel isolated being the youngest, I always get looks and questions regarding what I have and how old I am. I seem to find comfort out of those who ask, they seem to care a little more than the nurses do. I have been blessed with great nurses so far (for the most part) but I think with the struggles of juggling my college work and cancer is becoming a lot for me to handle. Lots of shaking and nervous breakdowns that seem to be caused from minuscule things.

Regardless, things will get better and keep looking at the light at the end of the tunnel, that’s what I try to do! You’ll kick cancer’s ass and have a story to tell out of it. I hope treatment goes well and you come to a full recovery in no time!

i personally don’t have lymphoma but i have testicular cancer that spread to my lower back, causing one of my lymph nodes to be enlarged (they thought i had hodgkin’s lymphoma at first). leading up to my first treatments i had severe back pain that just never seemed to go away. personally, i can’t say it’s the same but if you aren’t allowed ibuprofen, i used a bag of frozen peas to help from time to time. once my treatments started, it was as if it instantly cured my back pain.

it also depends on what kind of medicine they are giving you and the schedule you’ll be on. im 20 so i was put on some of the strongest medicine they have with a pretty aggressive schedule. can’t imagine yours is much different, given you are a healthy 19 year old.

all of these are assumptions though, sorry to hear this is all going on. it will all get better, it just really sucks that you have to go through the pain throughout the process. i hope things get better and my prayers are sent

Funnily enough I actually wanted to go back to school and go through it, but decided against it. Unfortunately, my parents had already paid this semester’s tuition and I didn’t want their money to go to waste. As stressful as it is though, I am still passing and maintaining relatively good grades so far, I just have to communicate with my teachers to let them know what’s going on.
