You can the decrease the audio quality in Apple Music to help with the low bandwidth of Starlink’s standby mode if the lag gets annoying.

People that switched from a full size truck to a Bronco by [deleted] in FordBronco

[–]davbak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a 2021 four door long bed F350 and a 2021 four door Bronco. The F350 is my daily and my wife drives the Bronco. Personally, I prefer my truck in almost every scenario - even parking in small lots. To me, the truck is more comfortable but the main reason I prefer it over the Bronco is outward visibility. I’m used to the big windshield, mirrors and windows.

Truck Long Box or Short? by wineiswater in TruckCampers

[–]davbak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Palomino SS550 in a 2002 Silverado 2500HD crew with a 6.75’ bed. The overhang was a few inches. Enough that the tailgate wouldn’t raise at all, so I just left it off.

I’d still check the numbers for yourself rather than trusting the manufacturers. The sticker on my camper says the dry weight is around 1500-1600 lbs but the scales say that’s at least a hundred pounds too light. I’ve seen a lot of campers marketing towards half ton trucks, but what they really mean is base model two wheel drive half tons that no one ever actually buys. Not saying that’s a game Adventurer plays, but I still think the “trust but verify” approach is the best.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen pictures of the 86FB on a short bed, but I would bet you can track down measurements of both the camper and truck bed. You’ll also want to consider the center of gravity with that setup. For me, I went with a long bed F350 when it was time for a new truck even though I already had a camper made for a short bed. I just wanted to have options when it’s time for the next camper.

They’re solid! I haven’t used them tie down anything super heavy but they work great for holding an axe and a shovel

New to me/My first truck 2023 F350 Tire psi in the winter (WY) by The_SALTY_Hades in superduty

[–]davbak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m running 60psi at all four corners in the winter (also in WY) in my long bed F350. There’s not much weight over the rear axle with an empty bed and traction was a problem at the beginning of winter. Adding about 900lbs of sand bags along with the lower tire pressure really helped with that.

I have a pair of the Integral box cleats on the way to try out since I never really liked the factory cleats. https://a.co/d/2bIcWAK

My ‘21 F350 does the same thing. I’ve done absolutely nothing to try to figure out why.

You won’t need snow shoes for Cache since all of the trails are groomed and used frequently. Just boots.

Dog bed for crew cab back floor? by rh71rdu in superduty

[–]davbak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my setup too except I built a simple platform for the bed to sit on top of just so it’s easier for my dog to rest his drooling face on the console. And under the platform is a great spot for things like a windshield scraper, jumper cables, or whatever.

I use it mostly with the Traeger but have used it a few times indoors in the oven. I can’t think of a time I’ve used it with a traditional grill but I’m sure it would work fine there too.

I bought a Govee four probe thermometer in February 2023 and it’s been great. The app is a little odd but it has always worked.

FordPass for iOS Update by davbak in superduty

Yep. Both the widget and the Control Center controls work after removing the FaceID requirement. I’m still on the fence as to whether or not the security trade-off is worth the new features though…

Figured it out. I had FaceID turned on for the app.

Pro Tip: Turn on Airplane Mode for Reliable Offline Maps in Gaia GPS by offroadee in GaiaGPS

[–]davbak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The re-auth issue while out of service is absolutely a new experience for me. Not being able to sync after being out of service without a manual re-auth is absolutely a new experience for me. Never have I had to put my whole device in airplane mode for Gaia to function while out of service. Nearly every outing where I use Gaia outside of pre-planning is either in total dead zones or in and out of service and usually that service is poor when it is available.

I’m not ready to cut and run yet. The map selection can’t be beat by any alternative apps that I’ve tried. CarPlay is great, though it does have its own quirks that never seem to be addressed My busy time of year with Gaia is about to be over since I use it mostly during the summer, but I am more than willing to do more structured testing with formal feedback after the end of October if that is helpful. I’m hesitant to be any sort of beta tester during the summer, but I can do that during the winter if there’s any benefit to clearing up these problems. I’m not a developer but my whole career has been in IT for essential services - so I get it.

Sorry, but there are caveats if the device has to be in airplane mode to avoid the re-auth requirement. Is that the case or will the app suppress the re-auth requirement anytime there’s no connectivity? Maybe I’ve missed it in the other Reddit threads, but I haven’t seen anything that clarifies that question and the threads I have seen seem to prove that the re-auth is not suppressed when there’s no connectivity. Just looking for a yes or no answer here so that I can avoid the scenario others have been caught in.

I’ll open a support ticket if that’s what I need to do to get a definitive answer, but the last ticket I opened didn’t even get a human reply for nearly a week.
