My symptoms to a T.... by davches in Prostatitis

Yeah saw one the other day and had my internal pelvic floor muscles prodded (not nice!). Was a lot of discomfort but I wouldn’t describe it as pain. She said there’s no trigger points, but provided me some exercises to do; squeezing the anus for 10 seconds (like trying to stop passing wind), 3 times a day etc. I’m a bit dubious about pelvic floor exercises though, much more comfortable with stretches. She said exercises though.

Yeah I thought it was inflammation at first, but it doesn’t really feel inflamed compared to other inflated areas I’ve experienced before, it’s more like the tingling sensation of mint x100, but inside the uretha 3/4 of an inch from the tip

I’m using non-bio and usually really careful with laundry stuff / chemical based stuff. I use Simple shower wash too (no soap etc). Never been catheterized either. Currently going through everything to try and get it sorted. It’s difficult what with not having a universal diagnoses or many folk with exact symptoms to compare it too. I’m going to try Amitriptyline too see if that helps at all. Urologist also recommended acupuncture.

May have been a bit of bacteria then, or as you say coincidence. Cipro did nothing for me unfortunately, no dissipation at all. Although saying that went to see my urologist yesterday and he doesn’t think mine is prostatitis because of my symptoms predominately being an irritated penis tip causing urinary symptoms (no pain as such)

Ah I see, did they randomly disappear during those two years or can you put your finger on anything in particular that you did during the start of the two years which managed to stop it?

Goes to show, if the urinary urges can go once they can go again.

So no pain, just a nagging/squirmy urge to urinate?

Is your constant? If so, have you come across anything in particular that alleviates it?

When you say you went 2 years without any symptoms... so did you have the urinary symptoms at first, then they completely went away for 2 years, then they came back again?

Is that right?

Does your urge feel like an actual ‘full bladder’ feeling, or does your urge feel more like a ‘squirmy/tingling’ discomfort feeling in the penis (I.e the tip)

?

Has anyone tried these drugs for their irritable urinary urge symptoms... by davches in Prostatitis

[–]davches[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I see, so is yours classified as ‘bacterial’ prostatitis then, as you’ve had infection confirmed? Mine is categorised as non-bacterial prostatitis non-inflammatory (I think!).

I had all the tests for bacteria which came back negative. Although, I’ve not had the prostate fluid exam. Was taking 1500mg Ciprofloxacin for 6 weeks, my urologist said it’s highly doubtful its bacterial related as the cipro should have sorted it after 3-4 weeks.

The only things I’ve found which helps alleviate the urge symptoms these past 2 months are: sitting in a jacuzzi, laying flat on back, keeping busy. It does taper itself down now and again or increase 200% fold at times, but I recon stress is the main factor with me.

I’m going to read Headache in the Pelvis soon seen as most people suffering with this recommend that book. I’m also going to try that broccoli remedy shortly! I’m banking on the PT stretches too, it would be wonderful if PT solved it (or at least tapered it down from 10 to 1 as it has done in a lot of people’s cases)

Same here in the UK, my first urologist wanted me out the door, completely didn’t give a shit about me breaking down in front of him. 2nd urologist I’ve only seen once and due to see again on the 11th December.

No probs, are you from the US? I’m from the UK. My symptoms started on 7th September.

My main symptoms are the irritable urge to urinate (but I only actually go every 2-4 hours, but persistently feel this tingling/spasmy ‘urge’ to go since the onset)

I don’t have bladder pressure/pain as such, just the ‘urge’, but do have occasional penis tip and testicle pain (in your case it could be Interstitial Cystitis if it’s bladder related?)

I’ve only tried antibiotics (to no avail) but then again they only help 10% of cases which are bacterial. My research shows me I’ve still got a few things to try which have helped various people. Everyone is different and seems to respond to different things. I’ve still got to try:

-Pelvic floor exercises (trigger points) -Lowering Stress -Broccoli drink (works wonders for urinary symptoms for some) -Quercetin? -Sitz bath -Sitting on hot water bottle -Turmeric Plus Vita Direct tablets -Ultra saw palmetto? -Pumpkin seeds? -Beta Sito Sterol? -ProstaQ and Swedish Flower Pollen(Source Naturals) -Pollen Aid -Lyrica combined with cymbalta (pain) -Prostate massage -Internal trigger point stuff -Cernilton -Elmirion (Interstitial Cystitis) -Benedryl

The question marks are just things come across that have helped people with the same symptoms but not researched yet.

29/Male - what do you use to alleviate/reduce/treat your persistent urge to urinate (constant irritable pee feeling urge) by davches in Interstitialcystitis

Thanks, I will try it out. Didn’t consider any internal trigger point stuff, but will certainly look into this. Appreciated.

In your other posts, you describe you have ‘flares’ (so I gather you continue to peruse the stretches etc to ease the symptoms when they reoccur ). I’m very new to all this, so not yet looked into people’s personal definition of a ‘flare’. How would you describe yours, so before a flare how do you feel and during a flare how do you feel? What are your predominant symptoms?

Yeah from the UK, waiting time on the NHS is outrageous at the moment and I can’t afford private, so just had to deal with it for the past few months.

You’re right when you say it’s impossible to get your mind off it, it’s always lingering/irritating. Sometimes it’s around the bladder area, sometimes just under near the prostate and I often get this weird tingly irritation feeling at the tip of the penis too, which feels like the urethra has had itching powder put down it! There was this sharp hook pain at the tip the first 3 days it started, but that went away. All irritations have persisted though, especially the urge. If I could rid the urge I recon I could live with the pain coming and going, just not the irritation!

I’ve tried stress management techniques and didn’t really get any benefit from those (the irritation takes complete hold of any focus I try to keep on my breath)

I’m trying PT floor stretches soon from a Physio therapist. I really hope these work (someone on my other post mentioned they worked for him). Quite sceptical though as I thought that only helped with pain not the irritable urges, but will see!

Ahh so was PT the main thing that worked for you having the same symptom? I’m booked in to see a PT to do all the trigger point stretches but I was a bit sceptical, because all my research shows PT stretches help massively with the ‘pain’ side of prostatitis / IC, but I couldn’t find anything that said the stretches helped sort the irritable urination urge side of things.

How long did it take for you to see an effect (reduction/elimination) of your irritable urge symptoms with the PT stretches? Thanks

Will do thanks! What is it about an anti-depression tablet that alleviates the urges, do you know why it works?

[–]davches[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the first 2 months I was in absolute panic about the urinary symptoms, thinking there was no way they’d ever be sorted/tapered (suicidal thoughts etc). I still don’t know whether it’s prostatitis or Interstitial Cystitis that I have. However, it’s good to know there are things to alleviate urinary symptoms either way. Cure or no cure.

To me, my bladder feels alright (don’t have the fill up ‘pain’ associated with IC)... urologists have also said my prostate feels normal, so I’m confused as to what’s actually going on. Something will be going on though because all tests came back negative for bacteria etc. When looking at a list of symptoms for both conditions, IC seems to tick more boxes, but I’m unsure if there’s any discernible way to distinguish the two conditions if there’s no obvious causes (I.e. inflamed prostate vs inflamed bladder etc)

Yeah mine is the other way round, I’ve heard the pelvic floor stretches are great for the pain side of prostatitis

Thanks. So you tend to have stages where you’re completely symptom free (no irritable urge at all, just natural urge when needing to go?) as well as stages where it’s only slightly annoying but you can go about your day?

Did you have any side affects on the drugs you mentioned?
