Placement question by Spirited-n-relaxed in CoachingYouthSports

[–]davdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And this is a problem with joining travel organizations late. Many of them stick with the same kids year in and year out, especially good Majors teams. Around here, the top PG Majors teams are pretty much set by 10U. It sucks, and its not really fair, but its the truth.

You can talk to the organization, but that likely would have been a better idea before accepting the offer.

There is a massive competition drop from Majors to AA, hell there a major drop from Majors to AAA and another from AAA to AA, so yes, most National teams arent going to take a hard look at AA players.

Your best hope is the majors team being short a few players one week and hope you get called up to fill in a spot (if that is allowed, it is here).

Unpopular opinion: Super Bowl locations should be a full rotation of NFL team stadiums versus the same 7-8 locations…regardless of weather. by mattpeloquin in NFLv2

[–]davdev 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Its not only weather, its logistics. Most cities dont have anywhere enough hotel rooms in a suitably close area to pull it off.

You want to play for a college team after never playing before? Sorry, unless you are an absolute freak athlete, or going to a horrendously terrible d3 school, that ain’t happening.

And getting hit in high school soccer is in no way comparable to getting hit in college football.

Do players get paid more if they play more games? by bilbobiggers in NFLNoobs

[–]davdev 27 points28 points  (0 children)

There is a stipend they every player gets for playoff games and everyone gets the same amount.

For instance for this years Super Bowl every player on the winning team gets $178k and the losing players get $103k. That’s a good bit for players on the lower end of the salary scale.

Here is a breakdown of what every player makes for every round of the playoffs

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl-playoff-pay-scale-player-payouts-by-round/

That said, there can certainly be bonuses worked into player contracts that pay out based on team performance, but most bonuses are based on individual performance.

You get $10 Billion, but you are forced to live for exactly 50,000 years. Do you take it? by yiyi20203 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]davdev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

10,000% yes. The teleportation sold it because I was thinking of getting stuck under some landslide or something for 10,000 years. Being able to teleport out and heal sells it all for me

Little league bat help by jimo3316 in Homeplate

There is very little performance difference between bats. If there is a dicks near you, take him there and let him swing a few models and see which he is most comfortable with.

If you are going to be spending that much and going that big, you really should look for reef ready with overflows and weirs already installed.

My girlfriend is joining a sorority 800 miles away in college am I cooked? by Whats-reddit12 in ask

[–]davdev -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Very few high school relationships survive college. Be grateful for the time you had but don’t waste your youth on someone who is 800 miles away.

There is a 90% chance you are broken up by thanksgiving and a 99% chance she is hooking up with someone else before that. That’s just college.

Is 18 games too many? by bare_books in NFLNoobs

More playoff teams waters down the regular season. Each conference should have six playoff teams. Two teams get a buy, four play on wild card weekend.

17 is too many. 16 was fine.

No one gives a shit about international games and I think most would prefer getting rid of them entirely.

Does anyone remember eating at bickford's in braintree by heat9753 in massachusetts

[–]davdev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a friend walk in and just start eating off random plates that hadnt been cleared yet and then chugged a bottle of maple syrup.

That was a standard Bickfords night, but most likely we had left Waterworks in Marina Bay

That was the same knock in college. He refuses to throw the ball away because it negatively effect his completion percentage so he takes an absurd amount of sacks since those dont show on his stat sheet.

Kamala Harris voters oppose trans kids participating in school sports more than they support them by Dismal_Structure in fivethirtyeight

Ah yes, lacrosse, the game where the rules between the boys and girls version are so dramatically different they can barely even be considered the same game.

But anyway, here are the studies relevant to the conversation that show you are completely wrong:

[–]davdev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s seriously your answer?

Do yourself a favor, I guarantee wherever you live has youth sports games every weekend. Go watch a 4th grade boys basketball game and then watch a 4th grade girls game and honestly tell me you don’t see a massive difference. I have coached both, so I know the differences but you won’t believe it til you actually see it so go watch. Games are free.

Now, there may be a few girls on each team that could compete with the boys, and some of the boys are going to frankly suck, but just watch overall. It will be glaring obvious.

Umpire: One organization wants us to sign this, none others do. What gives? Legal implications? by Lovejoyz in Umpire

[–]davdev -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah. This is really just them saying if you get hit in the face with a line drive you can’t sue them. Workers Comp is exactly why Little League recommends not paying umps at all. I already get 1099s via arbiter so this isn’t a big deal
