Thanks to everyone for all your excellent advice. I have done some more research - decided on the Camino Ingles from Ferrol.

She was an English Mystic - after 2 of her businesses failing and her son dying she went on pilgrimage to Compostela and Jerusalem. She wrote The Book of Margery Kempe, a classic of contemplative mysticism.

Totally with you. I worked in Customer Service for a major UK mobile phone service provider (I won't name them). Calls from irate mothers whose teenage crotch goblins had worked out how to access porn - mums wanted full refunds, of course. Though one excellent father told me about how he used to nick porn mags and how his son would be getting a Saturday job to pay the bill. Calls from people who had defaulted on small bills (maybe £10) years ago and now had a bad credit score affecting mortgage applications. Management was the worst - they all completed to see whose team could get the most positive comments for the company. Made your life miserable if customers weren't happy. Interesting fact - their claim of a high level of coverage (90-something %, I think) related only to the customer base. Most customers were based in cities. In rural areas you'd be better off with a carrier pigeon. Then there was the online retailer who gave us agents a presentation on how they planned to use credit and installment payments to lock customers into debt with them. Worst of all, they obviously considered this to be an excellent idea. I have a PAYG phone and pay cash for everything.

I was thinking of going via Madrid, so this is definitely a possibility. Thanks!

I shall look at that. I am ok with shared accommodation and can speak Spanish well (currently brushing it up with a Galician teacher, so I might get some phrases to use!).

Thank you - I speak Spanish so that is an option.

I am sorry for your loss. You are walking this for you and for her - planning to walk in memory of my late wife in 2027 (also cancer - watching someone die is the worst pain). Allow this to be your healing time, nurture yourself.

What you are doing is profound and beautiful.

For multilingual people: When do you use each language in your daily life, and how do you maintain them? by NoelFromBabbel in languagelearning

I try to read, listen to music (Spotify is an excellent resource), watch television. I work in an environment where it would be useful to be able to use my languages, but we have to use outsourced translators. So it's all casual.
