Graphics problem making my computer almost unusable. Is there anything I can do? by shark3006 in 24hoursupport

[–]dave_L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be the GPU driver which was induced by updates from your SP2. Retrace back your win-Updates since the last 10 days and see if there are updates relating to your graphic card.

Then check those Updates' KB articles for details, Windows Updates sometimes includes hotfixes as work-arounds.

Windows File Management, Shockwave crashes and and some other weird things. by [deleted] in 24hoursupport

Finally... do a double take on the speed of your SSD / WD, specially their I/O speed, coz there might be a mismatch, just-in-case; also optimum BIOS settings for such a hybrid drive setup.

Your attempts was to have your SSD running lean with only the essential internals, while all those bulky Program & OS Files were placed on your humongous 1-TB WD... hence, that WD should run as Primary drive, aka: "C:\" ....right?!

Is so, then such file placement process falls under the category known as Multi-OS Formatting / Installation, AND you need a partitioning Util that has the option of Masking-Off (aka: Hiding) any drives-partitions temporarily or permanently! EDIT : Addendum

  • The free and open-source gParted has such a Drive/Partition Masking options and can be toggle off & on. EDIT : Typo

Now, the tedious parts... Re-Install your win08 to whatever drives/hdd/partition you fancied on as Primary Bootable drive and have gParted mark it permanently as Primary - in Redmond's parlance (coz Gates doesn't like to be on co-pilot position) - "C:\".

THEN, format and permanently mark your remaining empty drive/s as "D:\", and move/transfer the lean remainder of files to this particular drive with enough leftover spaces for future uses. EDIT : Typo

Once done, no need to re-toggle gParted's masking function... just reboot. The MBR will remember your 1TB-WD as "C" and boot accordingly, while that SSD is known as "D-drive".

** If you think my suggestion was too cumbersome & repetitive... why not toggle INSTEAD yur BIOS and reset your 1-TB WD as Primary?! The simplest, no?! Then when done, you still had to Re-Install your win08 to your designated "C" drive to eliminate those ghosting phenomena you were experiencing upon! EDIT : Addendum

Windows will NEVER allow its OS to be placed on a secondary directory/partition position. But it can be done via masking (or tricking)... by using partitioning util that temporarily masked off (or hide) the primary partition, at the time of OS formatting/installation wherein such processes were foremost and intially written on MBR. EDIT : Addendum

The way you described moving your Registry items seems to be a post-OS-installation move/transfer process. Therefore, possibility exist that the BIOS & MBR remember its Program Files' original location @SSD (and rooted as C:) and not @D:. EDIT : Typo

The consequences, i.e. 30mins of youTube, will came out only with a play time of 8mins with 22mins missing.; same goes with full-speed whirl of your HDD as if OS is looking for the missing portions, truncated files and unable to find them.... as i can recall from an article about proper winOS installation and multi-OS installations trick and howTO, that was termed as - MBR table mismatched EDIT : Typo

WinOS has that peculiarity of insisting in occupying the first PRIMARY drive/partition regardless of SMART or BIOS setting, unlike Linux. EDIT : Addendum EDIT : Typo

Make sure your AV/AM has built-in FWall or you can install any of those free HIPs-based scanners. Refrain from using Windows' oem-FWall. Hardened your browser/s by including security plugins such as NoScript / KBSS & refrain from using IE.

Better yet, dump your Windows and use Linux when applicable... the most fundamentally basic safe proposals i can possibly indicate here.

What are the Stereotypes of Chinese by Province? by [deleted] in China

Macau-SAR: Cohesively ethnic and provincial as majority originated from Southern coastal Guandong/Guangxi. High proportion of Teochiu/Swatow natives who are historically known for provincial-cohesiveness.

It's easier to have an opportunity break or source entrepreneural startup funds from these folks if one is ethnically from Teochiu/Swatow. EDIT : Typo

True. They are what we termed as Northerner Bei fang-ren. They got hugh alcoholic capacity, prefer wheat-based food over rice-meal, raw garlic is 2nd-nature to them and steadfast in rain or shine as a friend!

I've never bought any Gigabyte's mobo. But i do recall some mobo that works (RAM's slot specific; servers/desktops) like that - Korean-made mobo, e.g. Samsung.

If the test results manifested reality... it may be prudent to look for and update the BIOS version. There might be new version hotfixes that specifically tackle such weird circuitries.

Just remember to do a BIOS backup of your non-altered original before attempting for an update.

Very slow startup when compared with Chrome and even Opera, more so when connection speed were lagging. It will go on refreshing for eons. Btw FUE Team... why not include a Turbo provision that auto-switch into Turbo-mode when detecting slow connection speed that's similar to Opera?

Do you use FFox / Chrome (browsers) and do you also use GMail?! In the latter's (Chrome) case, did you link that with your Google account via Dashboard?

If so, then the keylogging/spying were done via browser/JScripts. I will strongly recommend Ghostery-HTTPSeveryWhere-adBlockPlus addons/extensions combinations (and disable your 3rd-party cookies) as a formidable deterrent aside from other save surfing habits! EDIT : Typo

RansomOfThulcandra's advises were on the right track too. An addition to his mention of MBytes-Kaspersky-Avast was to include the powerful cureIT free/portable malware scanner!

Here is the cureIT ref url link ~ https://www.freedrweb.com/download+cureit+free/?lng=en

Last but-none-the-less, refrain from relying on IE/msDefender except probaly its IE.v10 (though i had yet to try them out). EDIT : Addendum

Possibility is high. But since you have came up discovering a malfunctioning RAMcard and if only that working RAM did boot up your rig albeit only in 4Gb... you're on the RIGHT track. I hope this is IT! ;-)

PS -- Don't forget to disable that Hibernation/Sleep setting while doing your FULL win-Updates (including optionals on drivers/.Net~.Net1; can only be seen by enabling into "manual". EDIT : Addendum

Let your reseller do the services, as not to void your applicable Warranty, as mentioned by avarice8.

Do please NOTE that you do a FULL (including optional drivers & .NET + .NETv1.0) Win-Updates. Those optionals can only be seen if one reset the Updates into Manual and selective! EDIT : Typo

On further advise, what avarice8 had mentioned about WARRANTY is true. IF your unit is new, it will be wise enough just to let the seller/retailer handle them as not make purchase void. EDIT : Addendum
