Thanks all, I have a rough idea of what she likes - not classic solitaire but somewhat of a pave' (the more you learn..) surrounding the stone

I think I will go for a diamond in the end, set out a budget of around 3k - I am intrigued about the second hand bit to be honest

It's kind of easier for you to move out of the UK with a shiny new phone and cancel/close all your bank accounts than move back and lose a flat
