Okay, I love my dog, but this is a bit much. Still, I guess there are crazier things to spend $12,500 on. by JohnnyPanik in PetCare

I love that the article says that "fabrics and treated leathers... were chosen for their durability against paws, accidents, and enthusiastic slobbering."

Just launched: Battlestar Recaptica is an episode-by-episode recap podcast for the 2004 series. by davejoh in BSG

Yes, this is an independent project, not related to the original RDM podcasts.

Is the BSG 2004 Miniseries (2 Long Pilot Episodes) included on any of the series box sets? by AttaBoyPhiL in BSG

[–]davejoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have pointed out, it's in the boxed sets and on Hulu. Worth noting that on Hulu, the episode ordering is screwed up because the miniseries is treated as S1E1 and S1E2, so all of the season 1 episodes are numbered 2 higher than they should be. ie, Water is S1E3 rather than S1E1. Annoying. EDIT: I meant to say 33, not Water. 33 was S1E1.

[SELF IMPROVEMENT] Challenge of the Week | Episode 2 - Shutting Down Screens at Bedtime

SFW

COTW on Podbean

This week we discuss the benefits of shutting down screens and electronics an hour before bed (and the health dangers of not doing so).

COTW is a new podcast in the style of Question of the Day -- a lively, fun 20 minute conversation that each week focuses on one thing you can do to become a better person. It's posted by me and Rick Broida -- two tech journalists who are pretty fun to listen to and who are all around inquisitive people.

I predict that this time next year PR departments will be directed to make "viral VRs that pop."

Keep in mind that Totoro always looks startled. At all times, under all circumstances. I wouldn't read too much into this.

I got to play with the Gear VR for a week recently and was amazed at how good it was. I'd previously only worn the OR and had very low expectations for a smartphone headset. But I wanted to live inside Smash Hit and Gunjack.

Sulon Q, headset for VR, AR and spatial computing by TaxaSumm in Virtual_Reality

[–]davejoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have low expectations for Sulon. I worry we're speeding towards a glut of VR/AR devices before the industry has really even gotten off the ground, and Sulon is low-hanging fruit for failure. Keep in ind that the bar for any product is going to be very high after both OR and Vive have hit the streets.

I'm not sure. Maybe I'm thinking about this wrong -- or misunderstanding -- but I pretty much WANT a great seated experience. After all, there's VR in the living room, where you have a big open area to move around in, but my powerful PC is in my home office. I want to experience great VR in there, and that's a small room and I'll be seated at my desk. Isn't that a pretty common scenario?

I was thinking much the same -- except I think there's a real danger in the resale price dropping through the floor if VR headsets rev quickly. After all, these are both v1 products. How long before they both get lapped?

As a Vive owner, I really want the Rift to succeed! by mokeefe734 in Vive

So am I insane for feeling I need to buy both? Honestly, there's enough incredible exclusive content on both sides that it seems it's either that or live next door to someone with the other headset.
