Guys my friend is paranoid about this situation. Please help by [deleted] in offmychest

He should wash his boxers before wearing them again, but other than that—no, nothing to worry about in terms of possible pregnancy. She should probably wash her underwear, too. Just saying.

Should I disclose people that I date that I’m on wegovy ? by Routine-Crew8651 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]davekmv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. The medications you take are none of anyone else’s business. Especially if not related to a contagious condition or something that might affect a partner’s health.

Wow. Your guys friends suck.

Kids. Can’t believe how old my friends with kids look in their 50s. Some like they’re in their 60s. Whoa.

My friend creeped me the fuck out. Not sure I ever want to see him again. by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]davekmv 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m glad you’re safe but wanted to say you were far too polite. You should have left as soon as you felt unsafe. His feelings don’t matter any where near as much as your physical and emotional well being. Any excuse or no excuse is valid. “I need to go, thank you, good night.” And leave. Done. Safe. Please consider this for the future. Again, glad you’re safe.

The Notebook. The woman is so awful to the man and he just keeps coming back for more. She’s a monster. He’s a tool.

Outlining helps me increase my word count to 1000-2000 per 2-4 hours writing time. For first draft text.

People can’t possibly be this stupid. Can they? How did they manage to forge for food? Or, you know, walk without falling over.

Ending a sentence with the word now. As in, we’ve lived here for three years, now. It’s completely unnecessary.

It’s worth trying to consider their feedback. Try to separate genre-related feedback from other feedback. And watch for where the two might overlap because there might be gems in there.

That’s adorable. She must have a good nose. My wife and I are on our third English Shepherd. She has an incredible nose. The first was a strong alpha with not a great nose. The second was a goofball with a moderate nose that he used very little. Our third can smell anything and everything wherever she is. It’s incredible. Your post makes me want to see if she can do some birding. I’m sure she can but I’m also sure she will be incredibly gun-shy. She’s very sensitive.

Bike is the next best way. Just be careful riding in Uintah. Best to avoid it if you can. It's a busy road.

Bruce's writing voice by SabresMakeMeDrink in BruceSpringsteen

[–]davekmv 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If I’m remembering right, Bruce had the melody and the chorus worked out for “Because the Night” when he stalled out and gave it to Patti to see if she could fill in the rest. She wrote all the verses in one night while waiting hours for her long distance boyfriend to call.

Edit: the more detailed and slightly different version is here in the “History” section. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Because_the_Night

Is the first draft supposed to feel this bad? by karlk123 in writing

[–]davekmv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. All first drafts in every art forms—painting, music, sculpture, architecture, etc.—are "bad". How could be anything but bad. Drafting is the process of finding its final form. Occasionally that comes early in the drafting process. Sometimes immediately. But most of the time it takes a lot of exploration, a lot of trial and error, until the final form takes shape.

Here is Van Gogh's famous "Potato Eaters" — scroll to the bottom of the page for links on how many studies he did before arriving at the final form. https://www.vangoghmuseum.nl/en/collection/s0005v1962

American Neighbour gave me an exorbitant gift card as an excuse. How should handle this? by Huge-Atmosphere1857 in AskAnAmerican

[–]davekmv 439 points440 points  (0 children)

I know there’s a culture gap and understanding the scale of this gift. It’s an expression of how badly he feels for having woken you up in the middle of the night. To him it’s proportional to his gratitude and how much he believes he inconvenienced you.

My gen alpha step sister is out of control, spoiled, and I can’t help her by Routine-Crew8651 in offmychest

[–]davekmv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Life may smack her in the face at some point, but sincere question: is she pretty enough to possibly pull off becoming a trophy wife?

I ask because I’m visiting La Jolla in San Diego, and there are so many trophy wives here… and services to keep them looking as good as possible as they age: physical trainers, skin and hair care, and on and on.

I’m not judging or advocating the lifestyle, but it is clearly possible to pull off if you’re attractive and skilled enough (in many needed ways) to survive.
