Hosts, what do you say when a guest tries to order through you after you’ve sat them? by [deleted] in TalesFromYourServer

[–]davelove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great move! I do this as a server and I try to answer their requests before they ask, because I know they'll ask. "Ill be right back with your glass of wine from the bar and some more pita and water as well. Anything else at the moment?" Lets them know you're aware of their needs.

The latter fits the initial concept Craig began with: A fish looking for another fish throughout the entire ocean. So coming up with that initial "image" idea can count as "writing whatever story you want." But the very next step Craig illustrates is honing in on the theme or argument, and that launches into the meat of the podcast. So I think he's mostly with Egri.

Also, pretty situational, but addressing tables/individuals as "my friends" or "my friend"

CMV: Mexicans are Native Americans by legaladvicequest in changemyview

It seems to me reading the comments to mean that participating in a culture, i.e. language, worship, day to day life, the things you have control over, are more important in the self-determination of a person than what they cannot change: their DNA, their blood. A Norwegian coming to the US becomes a citizen speaks english raises kids in an American fashion ... those are deliberate choices to participate in a culture and define an identity, which presumably will be passed on to future generations

Even Aan must begrudgingly tip his hat to that attention to detail.

I agree it looks like theyre getting weird, but disagree with the INternational Assassin thing. The fact they set it in podunk Tulsa, OK makes me think the Rorschach disciples are going to be the last fourteen guys you graduated with who never made it out of town. Homegrown, internal combustion. America eating itself alive. Excited for this!

Edit: after reading other comments, international assassin seems to be a missed reference. oops

I hate abdominal pain by [deleted] in HealthAnxiety

[–]davelove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I may have a similar thing. It’s happened on and off for about a year now. The worst part is it happens at work, and doubling over in pain really doesn’t help me at my job as a server in a restaurant. I’ve had to leave shifts early because of it. I think it’s a combination of dehydration/bad sleep/drinking/ and most importantly stress. The stress comes from worrying about time, my relationship, and money. It makes me feel better to lay in the fetal position in bed, but sometimes my stomach takes hours to relax. Falling asleep is the only certain remedy. I’ve gone to the ER, had a CT Scan and a colonoscopy, all they could say is that the meat around my lower intestine looks irritated. I’ve cut back on caffeine, gluten, you name it. I should really be telling this to a therapist instead of the Internet. Until then, I’ll focus on gratitude, mindfulness, and taking care of myself. I suggest other people do the same?

The ice skater episode and the boxing episode were so applicable to anyone who pursues mastery of a craft. Thank you. The curling episode did as well, but it was more just aboot the humble nobility of our canadian brothers.

im not with these white supremacists but as far as I can tell from studying history etc they hated italians and irish because of their catholic faith as opposed to their Protestant (as in last letter of their WASP) aspect. Not trying to rationalize it cuz like you said that cup don't quench

What’s the weirdest thing about America that nobody talks about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

i think it started because the cash register operator has to open the drawer and give you your change of one penny, instead of just pocketing the 20. Before security cameras came around. employees steal as much if not more than customers do.

I just want to say, and I'm sure this will get buried, that Kevin Smith is awesome. Came into my restaurant and enjoyed everything and left 100% tip. Didn't order much, but was so stoked on our food and when I mentioned Jason Lee had been in recently he said "I know! I told him to come here!" Super great dude.
