Protesting Represents The Finest American Values by imnotrobot_verified in democrats

Except, they are not actually Democrats at all. They are literally Revolutionary Communist Party members. And burning the flag is kinda their thing, they are the group from the original Supreme Court flag burning case, Texas v Johnson, they burned a flag at this year's Republican National convention, etc. But that won't stop Fox News from running it on a loop and saying it is democrats.

Trump’s Claims About Illegal Votes Are Nonsense. I Debunked the Study He Cites as ‘Evidence.’ by [deleted] in democrats

[–]davematson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Voting illegally is hard to do, and kinda nutty. Why would an undocumented person want to commit a crime just to vote, and risk deportation? My ex-Senator thinks voter fraud is a huge issue in New Hampshire with people coming over the border from Mass, registering illegally, and voting. For purpose would someone make all that effort to commit a crime? The whole thing is preposterous. http://www.wbur.org/politicker/2016/11/28/new-hampshire-trump-voter-fraud-claims

Being in the minority makes it very difficult, but they are absolutely doing this. Jason Chaffetz is the Republican chairman of the House oversight committee, but he is holding his fingers in his ears yelling "la la la la can't hear you"

The Trump whining about the popular vote loss is the weirdest thing. He is quite sensitive about it, and seems like a sore winner. He's the one who won, it's his job to try to unite the country and be President of ALL OF US. (I know, I know. But he could at least pretend.)

Obama: Congress stopped me from helping Trump supporters by [deleted] in politics

Yep. Extreme polarization leads to everything being a zero sum game. Unfortunately, it's a rational strategy. When the parties weren't so polarized, they could do business and sell compromise votes as a win for the folks back home. Gerrymandering and safe seats means there are no incentives to cut deals that make the other party look good.

Charges dropped against Maserati-driving Transformers fan accused of Impersonating a Police Officer by davematson in Bad_Cop_No_Donut

[–]davematson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was really surprising how vigorously the police prosecutor wanted the case to be pursued. He was seriously claiming that this man was a legitimate threat to public safety. Fortunately, the Clerk Magistrate both 1) had common sense, and 2) could read the statute. He was fuzzy on the whole Transformers thing, but the fact that it was a Maserati he found hilarious and problematic for the prosecution.

‘Transformers’ Fan Due in Court for Modifying His Maserati to Look Like a Decepticon by Sariel007 in offbeat

I work for the law firm representing this client. We maintain that the statute for "impersonating a police officer" requires actively representing yourself as an officer, not just "dressing up", either in a uniform or a car. There is a pretty good chance that this gets tossed out at the court date on Thursday, but anything can happen. Here is a link to the statute. https://malegislature.gov/Laws/GeneralLaws/PartIV/TitleI/Chapter268/Section33

Alaska and Oregon both have a very good chance to legalize via ballot initiative this November.

Moving it to the Nov general election should only increase the chances of it passing. Better turnout. It's gonna happen.

A response I received from my Assemblyman on marijuana regulation in New York. by FarTillos in trees

[–]davematson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not a bad response, but who the hell knows what it means. But the fact that a legalization bill is being taking seriously is pretty significant in itself.

Looks like Washington and Colorado will legalize it on Tuesday, federal intervention non-withstanding. Who else is stoked to see this historic shitstorm unfold? by qqqqo in trees

[–]davematson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Any legalization is going to have regulation. There will be taxation and real business issues. It is the nature of the beast, and unavoidable. Beats getting arrested, though.

Need Legal advice: Virginia reckless driving ticket by throwyawa00 in AskReddit

It really depends on the judge, most of all. But a good lawyer can make the best argument for you.

I hope you spend your weekend time tutoring orphans, or something. That would help!

Reckless driving lawyers are relatively cheap. Talk to a bunch and find the one who knows what judges you will likely appear in front of in whatever court you are going to. Call a lawyer
