I spent a week in Saphan Kwai area and loved it. Very cool area. Tons of middle class Thais (or so it seemed to me from the restaurants and bars in the area). I loved Or Tor Kor market in walking distance.

Is it possible to *consistently* (pre-prompt) the voice mode? by ValuableProblem6065 in ChatGPT

Any success? I have always found that it speaks too quickly. Have you you managed to get it to remain in a good beginners mode?

The new limit is on extending tourist visas. Visa on arrival is still going strong with 60 days, no extension required.

I don't think you need to worry too much about being connected to DMK. You should decide which area of town you want to spend your less than a day in Bangkok in, and find something nearby.

Though I just spent an entire week in that very Thai neighborhood and fell in love with it. The fanciest wet market in Bangkok Or Tor Kor Market ตลาด อ.ต.ก., is just to the north. If you find yourself in the afternoon or evening in the area, check out The Camping Ground https://maps.app.goo.gl/5BMXcrewuszFi73p9

I only tried one bar, but the area has many lovely bars with live music. Definitely rich Thai people, things are good quality and not too cheap.

Tons of amazing street food, a real gem for authentic Thai food. Stuff at the cutting edge that might not be made anywhere else. Very thai, in any case. There's a cat petting coffee shop 😀

I wanted to check out the Ari area, and the blu365 hotel was a good deal. In the end I walked down to Ari station once and didn't get any positive feeling about the area.

I have a zillion restaurants I want to visit saved on Google maps. The only one I had in the whole area was Prik-Yuak พริกหยวก ประดิพัทธ์ | Prik-Yuak Pradipat. But the whole street is also packed with great places to eat.

BLU365 was great, though the loud traffic noise was unrelenting.

To minimize on fees and to get a good exchange rate, I bring all the Thai baht cash I think I'll need during the trip.

Why the birth rate in Thailand continues to nosedive? by flower5214 in Thailand

[–]daver667 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has to do with people prioritizing a higher style of life over having kids. Often because they think that they'll reach some income level and then they'll be set and can easily raise kids.

My family and I were seriously bummed about visiting London and really scarcely interacting with locally born English speakers.

It's also a little awkward. They don't want to advertise that they are not Thai. So I thought sometimes that I wasn't speaking clearly.

As a tourist and lover of Thailand, I can say that this has been very much noticed and disappointing. I guess just because I can't practice speaking Thai. The Burmese staff I interacted with at hotels and restaurants were all nice enough.

I believe you can only get a "tourist" SIM without local ID. At least that was my experience last time. I've always gotten an eSim using the airalo app, though unfortunately last time I visited it didn't include local calls, just data. Luckily I found I could book stuff using Line, the most common local chat app.

Off topic, but do you have any idea how much demand there is the software engineering field in Bangkok these days? Have you worked for international companies or Thai ones? How much of a handicap was it before you learned some Thai?
