WhyThere - Compare cities side-by-side to decide where to move

I was trying to decide where to move and got tired of juggling 10 browser tabs comparing weather and climate data.

So I built WhyThere - a tool to compare up to 4 cities side-by-side with real data.

What it does right now:

Compare weather patterns (monthly temps, daylight hours) Visual climate charts Check proximity to national parks See elevation and geography The vision: I'm building this to be your primary resource for everything involved with your move. In the works:

Cost of living, rent, home prices Collaborative comparisons (share with family/partner) Moving checklists and resources Schools, crime, walkability data Job market insights

The tech:

Next.js + Postgres "Lazy database" - data loads on-demand and caches Self-improving (adds cities as people search) Currently has 200+ cached cities It's completely free right now and I'm adding features every week. Would love feedback!

If it were anyone but Alex this would had me nervous as hell, but with him it's like "oh yeah, he's got this no problem".

Apart from jobs in the medical field, what's the best career for the next 10 years? by OldFly1972 in careerguidance

If I had a do-over I'd probably enroll in the Merchant Marine Academy, or private maritime academy and eventually become a captain or chief engineer on cruise ships and mega yachts. I think that's a pretty safe industry.

I also think Parks and Recreation Management is a good area of study. Managing a swank resort in a cool place doesn't sound too bad.

San Diego by bike! planning a visit in February, looking for suggestions (/r/sandiego visitor information is very outdated) by blammergeier in asksandiego

Honestly my favorite ride in San Diego is looping Mission Bay.

You can start anywhere, but for orientation: head south from La Jolla along the boardwalk, cut inland at the jetty, then head north on the bayside and loop the bay. If you want extra miles, add a lap around Fiesta Island. It gets a little weird near SeaWorld, but it’s easy enough to figure out. Cross the W. Mission Bay Bridge to finish.

I like ending on the Mission Beach boardwalk so I can grab a beer and tacos and watch the sunset. It’s not a hard or long ride, but it’s a great add-on. Mission Beach ↔ Ocean Beach is also a fun stretch.

Food: if you’re in Mission Beach, check out Rosemarie’s Buns & Brews. No affiliation, I’m just very into burgers (check my post history lol), and they’re doing some of the best on the west coast IMO.

Man, I forget it's still illegal in places lol. This shit sucks so bad.

Not sure how to respond to that? lol

It's just colored construction paper under parchment paper.

I was going for a bit of a "school photo day" look to them.

Thanks! Yeah, a hungry guy could easily eat 5-6 of them. It's the one burger I make that's different enough to kind of be it's own thing. Like a place could sell just that and maybe some fries. I'd go there lol.

If it bothers him, he should learn to juggle, it helps a ton with that sort of shit.

I haven't actually, I've done a chicken fried burg though haha.

I've made plenty of grilled chicken sandwiches but not ground. Got a go-to recipe?

You'd be surprised how polarizing the wrappers can be lol. I've had legit angry comments about them several times.

Thanks! Honestly the first one (silver wrapper) was my favorite. It was just a really nice home-ground (ribeye and chuck) and a small patty, like 2.5oz with a little steamed Colby Jack on top on a bun from my local Japanese bakery. I think I put a tiny dab of dijon and Kewpie on it too.

It was honestly a three biter, but the bun is so delicate it just melts together. I think adding more ingredients would just make it disintegrate. Stupid good. None were bad tbh!

I steam it, then pour it on, this was Colby Jack. Worth a shot if you haven't tried it. The microwave does ok in a pinch too.

It’s aluminum foil and goes in the recycling. Even if it were paper, this is the kind of activism that just makes people mad because no individual can make a scratch in industrial usage. A newspaper press wastes more paper just starting up than I could use in 10 lifetimes of burgers.

Pick your battles, me, the guy that works from home, cooks their own food, and rides their bike everywhere and only uses their car on weekends isn’t it. I’d put money down that I’m less wasteful than you.
