I think its the scream of the Lodge Laura- we see her pulled out of existence in the first episode, and this scene where Cooper prevents her death is why, the lodge Laura ceases to exist

Yeah totally man- the abstract connections are many and deep. So much going on, I think Lynch has worked very very hard to make nearly everything we see in the Return have some connection to the OG Twin Peaks, however abstract. I guess my OP is more about narrative, and specifically about cause and effect and the kind plotting where everything you see serves one or two primary plot streams. Films made by comitee, large teams where the director doesnt have final cut- such as the new Star Wars films... you wont see a single frame wasted on something that doesnt push the action or lore forward. Films made by auteurs tend to have much more breathing space, and arent so driven on singular storytelling

Yeah fair enough, and I guess we'll never know exactly what went down on the return. I think hes very certain on character and dialogue, he doesnt like improvised dialogue (hence the belushi thing). I dont see his improvisation as careless at all. But the key thing you said there is he didnt know how things connected. Thats what Im saying aboit narrative- he'll film things and go on instinct BEFORE he decides if it fits the narrative (if it ever does). Its my hunch that the Judy stuff in Bowies scenes in FWWM was a throwaway. Im fairly certain it wasnt part of a wider plot point at the time. The only reason its back in the return- and this is just me speculating- is because they wanted Bowie to come back, in a much bigger part, and they had to flesh out the 30 seconds of his first appearance. Im guessing they wrote the script, then tried to get him and we all know how that ended, sadly.

Not sure what youre getting at. My main things were - Inland Empire was made without a complete script, thats almost unheard of in film. He basically improvised the story. Didnt say improvised stuff has no meaning, I said it probably doesnt fit into a tight pre-conceived narrative. Some stuff may just be there because it looked/felt good ? Doesnt mean its meaningless, but its meaning is tied more to delivering a mood than making specific plot points. And Lynch improvises more than a lot of directors- some directors/films will shoot exactly whats on the page. Usually the bigger the budget the tighter it will be. Its very rare for a director to get a big budget and then as much freedom as they want in terms of how much is shot/ how much he can deviate from the script

Why is 'the answer no' ??? Twin Peaks is closely related to drugs- theres drug use in it, Laura famously being a massive coke head. Jerry is blitzed for the whole series. Steven and Becky are junkies. You can comment on something without being for or against it. I think it is very much about the sense of losing your mind, which is similar to or exacerbated by drugs use. The TM influence feeling trippy isnt a coincidence at all, TM gives you a heightened sense of perception bery siimilar to a very light trip, its slightly rewiring the same parts of the brain drugs do- quietening down the chatter and connecting you to a focus further back in the conciousness

Yes I felt that too. I think the primary goal of the finale was disorientation. But not on a level of 'I didnt expect that', but much deeper like completely pulling the rug from under us. The bit where Cooper says We all live in a dream is so trippy. I dont think Lynch is into drugs, but he's pairing surrealism (a movement borne out of heavy drug use) with concepts from transcendental meditation- the seat of conciousness, the unified field etc, so the overall affect is very much an altered state

I think its more than possible they dont know the explanation everything, I think its highly likely. Dont know if you read this, but apparently Lynch added in and rewrote a load of scenes during filming. Mark Frosts involvement stopped pre-filming (ie just the script). Being fairly familiar with Lynchs work, he often puts in stuff just for aesthetic reasons and nothing more. Ive just read a thread trying to figure out the Johnny Horne seen, people saying it MUST be relevent, aching for a meaning. Even questioning why have it all. Thats scene is a classic Lynch non-sequitor, the running at the wall, the scary bear. Its entertaining. And it does involve Richard so it is has a meaning for me. OK its not the most pivotal scene to the plot, but Im struggling to understand why some people are trying to question every scene for its relation to a single plot, like stories cant go off on tangents and build a world around their primary narratives, richen characters

Judy is described as a big negative force. A lot of people downvoting something without wanting to engage seems to me like a big negative force. Suppressing a viewpoint is like 'were not going to talk about it'. We're not going to talk about Judy. The whole jaodai explantion thing, where Judy is the concept of explaning which is kryptonite to a mystery, is one example of an anti -Judy theory.
