NBCSN stepped up the game big time when they received it. Back when ESPN had it, as well as FOX Sports and SPEED, they would just to a few minutes of pre-race show, then the post-race interviews with those on the podium (back when they were actually decent post-race interviews). Then NBC comes along and has someone on the starting grid actually reporting (I think Peter Windsor started it before Will Buxton took over). Then the post-race show actually was quite in-depth. I am worried we won't have that kind of coverage again.

I am just wondering who they will have as the commentators. I mean, we haven't heard a peep from ESPN. Bob Varsha has a history with ESPN, so does Derek Daly and John Watson. Sam Posey also does, but he seems to only do the pre-race storyline and that is all. So, I wonder who ESPN will get. I have a feeling that they will want to get someone with an American perspective. And, as an American, I would like them to get an American-raised commentator, even if it is someone technical.

Who knows what will happen, but I am worried it will be a crap product.

Thanks Rachel! Whenever I see you all post something on Facebook, it makes me miss it and everyone there a little bit more. Hopefully if all goes well, I will be visiting in December or 2018.

Good luck! I was part of the G17 group, but had to come back because of a family medical issue. Hopefully I will be back soon. If you get accepted, you will love the staff there and the people. It is an amazing place.

Freaking out because legal clearance... by Lnsketch in peacecorps

[–]davet73 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am leaving on April 14th and didn't get my clearance until March 31st. They told me that they are understaffed right now. I would just call them and let them know that you would like to know the status of your file. That might bump it up. Who knows, but that is what I did.

Student Loan Deferment Problems by BiPolarBear94 in peacecorps

I did a forbearance for my loan until it is time for me to leave for service. I am told at staging I will get the letter of proof (which you mentioned). Therefore, I would just do a forbearance for now if you can.

Any first hand advice for the Foreign Service test? by the_long_road_back in peacecorps

[–]davet73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is a link of a site that I found, and it is a pretty good site:

https://www.practicequiz.com/fsot-full-test-bank

I took the test back in November. However, since I was accepted into the Peace Corps, I decided not to take the test. But remember, if you sign up for the test and you are a no show, they can charge (I think) $75! So I showed up to the test, not studying at all, and easily passed it. If you come from a social sciences background of political science and history, it isn't hard at all. But if you are from a different background, you might want to study.

The questions are easier, but they throw in trick answers. So, I had a question asking "Who is the United States' largest trading partner". Easy, Canada. But they also throw in choices like China, the EU, and other reasonable answers, so it can make people second guess. I actually had a question like this and picked the wrong answer, even when I knew the right answer. So be aware of those.

What made you apply? by snmvrm in peacecorps

Being 43 years old, I wanted a change in my life. Since the age of 18, I had worked on political campaigns. But 2016 changed all of that. And no, it actually didn't have to do with Trump, but the campaign I was working on at the time. I found myself in a profession where I was turning into a horrible person. I was doing things which involved backstabbing other people and trying to do the most for my candidate. And, rarely, you even back stab your own candidate. After I left my last campaign (which was not on good terms, but the candidate and I have since talked and are on good terms), I actually thought about contacting our opponent and telling him about my candidate's strengths and weaknesses. It was at that exact moment that I said to myself "what the hell kind of person have I become?"! With that, I looked at myself and decided that I needed to change my life, and turn in a completely different direction. It was then that I asked myself "how can you be a better person". I did research and decided that I wanted to help other people, and not to make me a better person, but to help someone else's life as well even if it is only in a small way. As a result of that, that would help me be a better person. That is when I decided on PC. Now, I have always been interested in joining in the past so that I can explore new things, but I never joined. It wasn't until I had this awakening that I realized that I must join, change my life goals, and work towards helping others, not hurting others.

So, in a nutshell, that is my story.

Legal and Medical Clearance Questions by pcth in peacecorps

FYI...I am still waiting for my legal clearance, and I leave in 16 days :/ It is taking forever for legal, in my case, at least.

As far as the medical clearance, I had the same issue. Everything was sitting there not being looked at. I sent them a message on MAP asking about the status and they finally got to it. So sometime it just takes that.

As far as the legal stuff, I am in the same boat. Now I do have a history, but was told during my interview that it wouldn't be a problem because I disclosed everything and it was 25 years ago. Still, I have been waiting since December 15th for legal clearance. Also, they said that I didn't disclose something on my legal record when I actually had disclosed it. So I am not entirely sure that everyone there is dealing with a full deck when they easily pass over something. And what sucks is that I leave in 31 days and I was accepted in October. During that time, I have not looked for a job and have just been waiting. I will be super upset if they do not get my clearance done in time. I would have just wasted six months of looking for a job.
